Disturbing Discovery
A journey on the premium Vande Bharat Express from Patna to Tatanagar took a deeply unpleasant turn when a passenger encountered a distressing situation
with their meal. The incident, which quickly gained traction online, involved the discovery of live insects within a cup of Amul dahi. This unsettling find wasn't isolated, as other passengers aboard the same service also reported similar findings in their meals, raising significant concerns about the hygiene and quality of food being provided on this high-profile train service. The widespread nature of the complaints immediately prompted an investigation into the catering arrangements.
Swift and Severe Action
Responding with considerable speed to the viral video and subsequent passenger complaints, the Ministry of Railways wasted no time in enacting disciplinary measures. The company responsible for food provision on the affected Vande Bharat Express faced the immediate termination of its contract. Furthermore, a substantial financial penalty of Rs 50 Lakh was levied against the caterer for the lapse in food safety standards. Adding to these repercussions, the Indian Railway Catering and Tourism Corporation (IRCTC) was also fined Rs 10 Lakh, underscoring the seriousness with which the railways are treating this food quality failure on one of its premier services.
Prioritizing Passenger Safety
In the wake of the Vande Bharat food incident, an official spokesperson for Indian Railways emphasized that passenger safety and the quality of services provided are paramount concerns. The railway authorities stated unequivocally that such issues are not taken lightly and that stringent protocols are in place to ensure high standards, particularly on premium trains like the Vande Bharat Express, where passengers have come to expect a superior level of service and hygiene. This incident and the subsequent actions taken serve as a clear message regarding the railways' commitment to maintaining customer trust and upholding food safety regulations.
