Sakinaka's Tech Street
In Sakinaka's bustling Technology Street, significant traffic bottlenecks have been caused by extensive roadside parking, particularly between Olympia
Building and Gopal Chandrabhan Circle. This has severely hampered the movement of essential services like ambulances and fire trucks. To combat this, an odd-even parking system is now in effect until August 6th. On even-numbered dates, parking is permitted only on the left side of the road, while on odd-numbered dates, parking shifts to the right side. Heavy vehicles are now completely prohibited from parking in this area, a measure that began on May 7th to streamline traffic flow and improve accessibility on this vital stretch.
Worli's GM Bhosle Road
GM Bhosle Road in Worli, a crucial link connecting PK Kurne Chowk to Acharya Atre Chowk, is experiencing significant traffic congestion due to persistent parking along its main carriageway. Despite prior warnings, vehicles continue to occupy valuable road space, impacting both vehicular and pedestrian movement. From May 7th to August 4th, new regulations are in place. Taxis, commercial four-wheelers, and heavy vehicles are banned from parking on both sides of the road. Furthermore, for private four-wheelers and two-wheelers, parking is restricted: it's disallowed on the southbound side on even dates and on the northbound side on odd dates, aiming to create a more fluid traffic environment.
Bhandup-Mulund Belt
The Bhandup-Mulund region is also seeing changes, particularly along Jungle Mangal Road between Khot Gully and Shivaji Lake. This internal road has become congested due to vehicles parked on both sides, narrowing the available space for traffic. To address this, an odd-even parking system has been introduced, operational from May 12th until August 11th. On even dates, parking is allowed on the left side of the road (from Shivaji Lake to Khot Gully), and on odd dates, it shifts to the right side. Additionally, all heavy vehicles are now prohibited from parking along this stretch, as the authorities aim to reduce bottlenecks and improve vehicle circulation.
Broader Traffic Goals
These localized parking adjustments are part of a wider strategy by the Mumbai Traffic Police to enhance traffic management across the city's congested corridors. The objective is to systematically reduce congestion on narrow internal roads, curb instances of illegal roadside parking, and crucially, ensure that emergency vehicles have unimpeded access. By implementing these temporary measures, the police aim to create a more organized and efficient traffic system for both emergency responders and the daily commuters navigating Mumbai's busy streets.
