Initial Impressions & Highway Cruising
Our long-term Audi A4 has now covered 7,000 kilometers, offering a consistent and refined driving experience. The potent 2.0-liter TFSI engine, now producing
204hp, delivers strong performance, smoothly paired with the S tronic dual-clutch gearbox. This combination ensures effortless acceleration for both city commutes and open-road cruising. During a recent highway trip, the car demonstrated impressive fuel efficiency, reaching up to 15kpl, a notable figure for its class, although this specific variant's 12V mild-hybrid system contributes to slightly lower efficiency compared to older models with more advanced systems. The ride quality is a standout feature, effectively absorbing road imperfections even at higher speeds, making longer journeys comfortable. The LED headlights provide excellent illumination, crucial for early morning or late-night drives. This initial phase has solidified the A4's reputation for comfort and smooth power delivery.
Interior Comfort & Design
The interior of the Audi A4 continues to impress with its exceptional build quality and premium materials. The cabin design feels thoughtfully put together, offering a sense of luxury and durability. The infotainment system is user-friendly, complemented by the intuitive MMI touch response. Seats are designed for long-distance comfort, providing ample support. A specific detail noted is the tan-colored upholstery, which serves as an excellent compromise, offering a lighter feel without the high maintenance concerns of pure cream, a smart choice for practical daily use. While the car is approaching a decade in the Indian market, its fundamental design elements, such as tactile rotary AC controls with temperature displays and clear digital instrumentation, remain highly functional and aesthetically pleasing, reminiscent of a classic era of luxury car interiors. These elements contribute significantly to the overall refined cabin ambiance.
Handling Dynamics & Quirks
The Audi A4 showcases a well-balanced chassis that instills confidence, especially on winding roads. Steering is precise and predictable, neither too sharp nor too vague, allowing for accurate control. The car has evolved from its predecessors, exhibiting less understeer and a more engaging feel through corners when driven spiritedly in Dynamic mode. However, a few minor points have surfaced during this long-term assessment. The suspension, while excellent at smoothing out road imperfections, can feel a bit firm on particularly rough surfaces. Additionally, road noise becomes noticeable at higher speeds, slightly detracting from the otherwise serene cabin experience. Boot space, while adequate for typical requirements, is not exceptionally large. A particular note was made about the 360-degree camera system; its feed is somewhat grainy and distorts, especially in low-light conditions, making it less useful than expected and often necessitating reliance on the mirrors for parking maneuvers. The 17-inch wheels, while functional, were noted as a potential area for improvement, with the suspension seemingly capable of handling larger wheels.
Value Proposition & Aging Gracefully
Despite its age, with the current generation nearing a decade since its introduction in India, the Audi A4 continues to deliver a strong luxury car experience. Its enduring appeal lies in its solid engineering foundations and a blend of comfort, performance, and technology. This long-term report highlights that while newer rivals in the Indian market may offer more advanced features, they come at a significantly higher price point, often around Rs 10 lakh more. The A4, particularly this Signature Edition variant (a limited run no longer available that featured specific aesthetic touches like open-pore wood trim and puddle lamp projections), offers a compelling value proposition for those seeking a premium sedan. The car has incurred no maintenance costs and reported no faults during its initial 7,000 kilometers, further strengthening its case as a reliable and enjoyable vehicle that still holds considerable merit in its segment.
