This pass, applicable to all vehicles with a valid FASTag, gets activated within two hours of payment through the Rajmarg Yatra App or the National Highways Authority of India website, simplifying your travel budget and ensuring continuous access to national highways.
Loose Tag Penalties
To prevent unnecessary delays at toll plazas, the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) enforces a strict policy for vehicles that don't display a properly affixed FASTag on their windscreen. If you enter a toll lane without the tag correctly placed, you'll be charged double the standard user fee. This measure aims to discourage intentional non-adherence, which not only inconveniences other drivers but also disrupts the smooth flow of traffic that FASTag technology is designed to facilitate. Ensuring your FASTag is visible and functional is key to avoiding these extra costs.
Construction Toll Cuts
Experiencing road construction can be a hassle, but when national highways are being upgraded, drivers can benefit from reduced toll fees. According to the Ministry of Road Transport and Highways (MoRTH), if a road is being expanded from two lanes to four or more, users will only pay 50 per cent of the original toll rate throughout the construction period. For instance, if a standard toll is Rs 50, you'll be charged just Rs 25 while the upgrades are underway, offering a financial reprieve during these temporary disruptions.
UPI vs. Cash
The difference in toll charges can be significant if you're not using a functional FASTag. While vehicles without a valid FASTag making a cash payment will be charged twice the usual toll, those opting for UPI payments receive a slightly better deal. For UPI transactions, the penalty is 1.25 times the applicable user fee for your vehicle category. This encourages digital payment methods even in instances where a FASTag isn't properly registered or affixed, offering a minor discount compared to cash payments.
