Attack in Ufa
A shocking incident unfolded at a medical university in Ufa, located within Russia's Bashkortostan Republic, when a stabbing attack took place in a sports
hall within a hostel designated for foreign students. This event resulted in multiple injuries, with four Indian students and two police officers being among those affected. The Indian Embassy in Russia was promptly informed and has confirmed its involvement, stating that it is in continuous communication with the relevant local authorities. Officials from the Consulate in Kazan were dispatched to Ufa to offer immediate aid and support to the injured Indian nationals. The situation was described as chaotic by eyewitnesses, who reported seeing significant amounts of blood and emergency services attending to the wounded.
The Perpetrator and Victims
Initial reports indicate that the assailant was a 15-year-old individual who gained entry to the dormitory of the Bashkir State Medical University armed with a knife. The motive behind the attack remains under investigation. During the apprehension, the attacker reportedly resisted arrest, leading to the stabbing of two police officers. The suspect also sustained self-inflicted injuries. While the identities of all injured parties have not been officially released, eyewitness accounts suggest at least one Indian student was among the victims, with some reports suggesting the possibility of more than one attacker. The injured students and police officers are receiving medical treatment at a local hospital, and the teenage assailant is also in serious condition at a children's hospital.
Ongoing Investigation
Following the disturbing event, the Investigative Committee of Russia has officially launched a thorough probe to uncover the full circumstances surrounding the stabbing. The focus of the investigation will be to determine how the attacker managed to enter the student accommodation and the sequence of events that led to the injuries. Authorities are working to gather evidence and interview witnesses to piece together the incident. The Indian Embassy remains vigilant, awaiting further updates from the Russian authorities to ensure the well-being and proper care of its citizens who were caught in this unfortunate attack.
