A New Era of Lounges
Air India has launched its first-ever flagship lounge, christened The Maharaja Lounge, at Terminal 3 of Delhi's Indira Gandhi International Airport. This
expansive 16,000-square-foot facility marks a significant advancement in premium air travel, ingeniously merging traditional Indian aesthetics with contemporary design principles. Crafted by the renowned Hirsch Bedner Associates (HBA), the lounge embodies the airline's recently updated brand identity and its commitment to exceptional guest experiences. The ambiance is one of refined luxury, characterized by plush furnishings, tasteful decor, and soft, inviting lighting. Throughout the space, carefully curated art installations pay homage to India's vibrant cultural tapestry, aiming to foster a sense of national pride and connection among travelers while they indulge in world-class comfort.
Diverse Spaces for All
The Maharaja Lounge is thoughtfully designed to accommodate approximately 300 guests, featuring distinct areas tailored for both Business Class and a more exclusive First Class clientele. Recognizing that travelers have varied needs, the lounge offers a spectrum of environments. Visitors can find tranquil zones specifically designated for quiet relaxation and unwinding before a flight. For those needing to attend to professional matters, comfortable nooks equipped with essential amenities are available, ensuring productivity can be maintained. Additionally, more lively and communal areas are provided for guests who prefer to socialize or simply enjoy the vibrant atmosphere. This segmentation ensures that every passenger can find a space that perfectly suits their mood and requirements, enhancing their overall lounge experience.
Unique Themed Retreats
Among the standout features of the lounge are its uniquely themed areas, designed to offer memorable experiences. The Aviator’s Bar draws inspiration from aviation history, specifically JRD Tata's pioneering 1932 flight, with its ceiling artfully designed to resemble the propeller of the iconic Puss Moth aircraft. For intellectual pursuits, the Globetrotter’s Study provides a serene sanctuary for avid readers and business professionals, stocked with a curated selection of books and offering high-speed internet access. The Serenity Area is dedicated to ultimate relaxation, featuring comfortable recliners perfect for a peaceful interlude. First Class passengers are afforded an even greater level of privacy and rest in the exclusive Sleep Suites, designed for restorative pre-flight naps.
Gourmet Delights and Views
The Crystal Bar, a dazzling centerpiece within the First Class section, captivates with its shimmering crystal enclosure and offers a refined selection of champagnes and signature cocktails. Guests also have the opportunity to dine while enjoying breathtaking panoramic views of the tarmac, providing an engaging backdrop for their meals and a perfect vantage point for aviation enthusiasts. The culinary journey at The Maharaja Lounge is a highlight in itself, presenting a diverse array of Indian and international dishes prepared at live cooking stations. A distinctive 'Beverage on Wheels' service ensures that bespoke cocktails can be brought directly to guests' seats. The lounge also celebrates India's beloved beverage with a special Tea Programme, featuring freshly brewed teas and accompanying snacks served from an elegant trolley, adding a culturally rich touch to the dining experience.
A Keepsake and Vision
Adding a thoughtful personal touch, guests can take home a memento of their journey with exclusive Maharaja-designed postcards. The airline's CEO & MD, Campbell Wilson, heralded the lounge's opening as a pivotal moment in Air India's ongoing transformation, signaling a commitment to elevating the passenger experience. He further emphasized that this premium facility is merely the precursor to a broader expansion strategy, with plans to establish similar lounges across India and internationally, thereby setting new benchmarks in the aviation hospitality sector. Beginning February 16, 2026, the lounge will begin welcoming First and Business Class passengers, alongside Gold and Platinum members of the Maharaja Club and eligible Star Alliance Gold travelers, ushering in a new era of redefined airport comfort and service.
