A significant boost to inter-state travel has arrived with the inaugural run of the Bengaluru-Mumbai Express. This new bi-weekly train service is set to revolutionize
journeys between Karnataka's capital and Maharashtra's financial hub. Operated by the South Western Railway (SWR) zone, the train aims to facilitate easier movement for individuals traveling for business endeavors, educational pursuits, tourism experiences, and employment opportunities. The introduction of this express service is expected to greatly benefit passengers by improving rail connectivity to crucial commercial and cultural centers along its path, thereby streamlining travel for a diverse range of passengers.
Route and Station Stops
The Bengaluru-Mumbai Express covers a considerable distance of 1,210 kilometers, with its inaugural special service operating under train number 06557 from Sir M. Visvesvaraya Terminal, Bengaluru, to Lokmanya Tilak Terminus, Mumbai. The train is slated to make stops at a total of 15 stations along its route. These include Tumakuru, Davangere, SSS Hubballi, Dharwar, Belagavi in Karnataka, and Miraj, Sangli, Karad, Satara, Lonand, Pune, Lonavala, Karjat, Kalyan, and Thane in Maharashtra. This extensive network of halts ensures that the service caters to a broad spectrum of travelers across various regions of both states.
Schedule and Travel Time
Regular operations for the Bengaluru-Mumbai Express are scheduled to commence shortly. Train number 16553, departing from SMVT Bengaluru, will run every Saturday and Tuesday at 8:35 p.m., arriving at Lokmanya Tilak Terminus at 8:40 p.m. on Sundays and Wednesdays, respectively. The journey is expected to take approximately 24 hours and 5 minutes. In the return direction, train number 16554 will depart from Lokmanya Tilak Terminus at 11:15 p.m. on Sundays and Wednesdays, reaching SMVT Bengaluru at 10:30 p.m. on Mondays and Thursdays. This meticulously planned schedule aims to optimize travel convenience for passengers.
Coach Composition and Fares
The Bengaluru-Mumbai Express is equipped with a total of 17 LHB coaches, designed to offer comfort and a pleasant travel experience. The train's configuration includes one AC 2-tier coach, four AC 3-tier coaches, six sleeper class coaches, and four general second class coaches. Additionally, it features one second class luggage-cum-brake van with a compartment specially designed for Divyangjan travelers, alongside one luggage-cum-generator car-cum-brake van. Ticket fares for the SMVT Bengaluru to Lokmanya Tilak Terminus route are set at Rs 750 for Sleeper Class, Rs 1,880 for AC 3 Tier, and Rs 2,575 for AC 2 Tier, making travel accessible across different budget preferences.
