Motorcycle enthusiasts are buzzing with the recent sighting of a heavily camouflaged test motorcycle, believed to be based on BMW Motorrad's forthcoming
F 450 platform. This new twin-cylinder engine architecture is poised to succeed the current G 310 platform, marking a significant step up in BMW's smaller displacement offerings. The F 450 platform is slated to debut with the F 450 GS adventure motorcycle, followed by a host of other models including the F 450 RR and F 450 R. This new platform represents a strategic shift for BMW, aiming to offer more potent and versatile machines in the middle-weight segment. The collaboration between BMW and TVS Motor Company, which previously yielded models like the G 310 R and G 310 GS, hints at a potential joint development for this new 450cc platform as well, suggesting that models from both brands could soon grace public roads.
Design & Hardware Insights
The test mule presents a classic fully-faired supersport silhouette, though the extensive camouflage makes definitive styling observations challenging. However, several key design elements are discernible. The motorcycle features fairing-mounted mirrors, clip-on handlebars contributing to an aggressive riding posture, and a sleek split seat design. Subtle winglets are also visible, hinting at aerodynamic considerations. At the rear, the taillight assembly appears to integrate brake lights with the turn indicators for a cleaner look. In terms of suspension, the bike is equipped with USD telescopic front forks and a rear mono-shock, both of which are likely to offer adjustability. Braking duties are handled by a single disc setup at both the front and rear wheels. These components suggest a focus on performance and agile handling, typical of a sports motorcycle designed for spirited riding.
Engine Specifications Revealed
Powering this new machine will be a 420cc, liquid-cooled, parallel-twin engine. This powerplant is expected to deliver approximately 48 horsepower at 8,750 rpm, complemented by a healthy peak torque of 43 Nm at 6,750 rpm. These figures place the F 450 platform squarely in the competitive middle-weight segment, offering a substantial upgrade in performance over the previous 310cc models. The dual-cylinder configuration promises a smoother power delivery and a more engaging riding experience, suitable for both commuting and enthusiastic track days. This engine specification is crucial for the bike's performance capabilities, enabling it to compete effectively against established rivals in its class.
TVS Apache RR 450 Clues
Several indicators point towards the possibility of this test bike being the TVS Apache RR 450. TVS Motor recently showcased the Tangent RR motorcycle concept at the EICMA 2025 show, a machine that strongly suggested a production model based on the new 450cc platform was in development. The concept featured a distinctive monocoque subframe, a design choice rarely seen in this segment, and hinted at TVS's ambition to push boundaries. While the spy shots do not reveal the subframe design, the very existence of a sportsbike concept from TVS aligned with this new platform fuels speculation. Furthermore, the shared development history between TVS and BMW on their previous 310cc platform makes a joint venture for the 450cc series highly probable. This would allow TVS to leverage the new engine and chassis for its own performance-oriented Apache RR model.
BMW F 450 RR Possibility
Alternatively, the test mule could very well be the BMW F 450 RR. BMW Motorrad has a history of experimenting with unique and asymmetrical headlight designs, and the vertically aligned headlight unit observed on the test bike aligns with this characteristic. The headlight appears to be split into two distinct chambers, likely for low and high beam functions. This contrasts with the more traditional, split eye-like headlight design seen on the TVS Tangent RR concept. Another point of divergence is the braking system; the TVS concept featured dual front discs, whereas the test mule displays a single disc setup. These visual discrepancies, particularly the headlight design and braking configuration, lean towards the possibility of this being the BMW F 450 RR, embodying BMW's distinct design language and engineering approach for its sportsbike offerings.
