Annual Pass Fee Update
For the upcoming financial year, commencing April 1st, 2026, the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) has announced a revised fee structure for
its FASTag Annual Pass. This scheme, designed to simplify toll payments for frequent travelers, will see a slight adjustment in its pricing. Specifically, owners of non-commercial vehicles, including private cars, jeeps, and vans, will now be required to pay Rs 3,075 for their annual pass. This represents a modest increase from the previous rate of Rs 3,000. The introduction of this pass aimed to enhance the convenience of highway travel by offering a fixed annual fee for a set number of toll crossings or a year's validity, whichever milestone is reached first.
Understanding The Pass
The FASTag Annual Pass is a dedicated offering tailored for private vehicles registered for personal use, meaning it's not applicable to commercial transport. To be eligible, your vehicle must be fitted with a valid FASTag. Once this annual pass is activated, it grants the holder the privilege of crossing toll plazas on National Highways a remarkable 200 times or remains valid for a full year, whichever condition is met prior to the other. This provision ensures that users benefit from predictable expenses on their highway commutes, irrespective of the individual toll charges at various plazas across the extensive national highway network.
Growing Popularity & Usage
The FASTag Annual Pass scheme has experienced significant uptake since its inception on Independence Day in 2025, according to data from the Ministry of Road Transport and Highways (MoRTH). A substantial number of motorists across India are leveraging this system, with over 50 lakh users currently benefiting from the pass for their toll payments. This widespread adoption is further evidenced by the fact that approximately 28 percent of all toll transactions made by private cars on National Highways are now conducted through this annual pass. This statistic underscores the growing appeal and practical advantages of the system for individuals who regularly travel on national highways.
FASTag's Dominance
Since its debut in 2016, FASTag has firmly established itself as the principal method for toll collection throughout India. Government figures reveal that an impressive total of nearly 11.86 crore FASTags have been issued to date, with a substantial portion, around 5.9 crore, remaining actively in use for electronic toll payments nationwide. The effectiveness and convenience of this digital system are further highlighted by the fact that over 98 percent of all toll revenue collected at National Highway fee plazas is now processed via FASTag transactions. This demonstrates an overwhelmingly large-scale shift towards digital tolling solutions across the country.
Application Process
Applying for or renewing your FASTag Annual Pass is a straightforward digital process. Motorists can initiate their application through convenient online platforms, including the dedicated Rajmarg Yatra App, as well as the official websites of NHAI and MoRTH. To activate the pass, users must first log in using their FASTag-linked account. Subsequently, they will need to provide their vehicle registration details and a registered mobile number. The final step involves completing the payment, which can be done seamlessly via UPI, debit or credit cards, or net banking. Once the payment is successfully processed, the annual pass is automatically associated with your existing FASTag and typically becomes active within 24 hours.
