Punch EV Power
The Tata Punch EV is poised to hit the market, building on its ICE sibling's success with an all-electric powertrain. Enthusiasts can anticipate two battery
configurations: a 25 kWh unit offering approximately 265 km of range and delivering 82 hp with 114 Nm of torque, and a larger 35 kWh option that extends the range to around 365 km with a more potent 122 hp and 190 Nm of torque. This electric micro-SUV aims to blend urban agility with eco-friendly performance, making it an attractive proposition for city dwellers seeking sustainable transportation without compromising on utility.
Sierra EV's Return
Tata Motors is also reviving the iconic Sierra nameplate in an all-electric guise, scheduled for a 2026 debut. This reimagined SUV will be built on the advanced Acti.EV+ platform and will offer prospective buyers a choice between two substantial battery packs: a 55 kWh and a larger 65 kWh variant. Impressively, all-wheel drive will be available from launch, powered by a dual-motor setup. The exterior will sport distinct design elements, particularly noticeable at the front, setting it apart from its predecessors, while the interior is slated to feature a contemporary, technology-forward cabin experience, marrying nostalgia with cutting-edge automotive innovation.
Maruti's Electric Debut
Maruti Suzuki is making its grand entry into the EV segment with the e Vitara, slated for a 2026 release. Designed to compete with established players, this model will offer robust safety with a five-star rating and will be available with two battery options: a 49 kWh and a 61 kWh pack. These configurations are projected to deliver an impressive maximum range of up to 543 km on a single charge, positioning it as a strong contender in the mid-size electric SUV category. Its arrival signifies a significant shift for the country's largest automaker, bringing electric mobility to a wider audience.
Toyota's Rebadged EV
Complementing Maruti Suzuki's entry, Toyota will introduce its version of the e Vitara, branded as the Toyota Urban Cruiser Ebella, also in 2026. This electric SUV will mirror the battery options of its Maruti counterpart, featuring a 49 kWh and a 61 kWh battery. The more powerful 61 kWh variant will be equipped with a 171.6 hp electric motor generating 189 Nm of torque. The 49 kWh variant will house a 106 hp motor. Offering a maximum range of 543 km, the Urban Cruiser Ebella will provide flexibility with both two-wheel drive (2WD) and all-wheel drive (AWD) options, catering to diverse consumer needs and driving preferences.
Kia Syros EV Entry
Following its initial launch, the Kia Syros SUV is set to expand its electric portfolio in India with an EV variant, anticipated around February 2025. This electric derivative is expected to be built on the versatile K1 platform, shared with models like the Hyundai Casper and Exter, suggesting a front-wheel drive configuration. It is likely to incorporate battery technology from the Hyundai Inster, offering choices of 42 kWh and 49 kWh. This move by Kia indicates a strong commitment to broadening the electric vehicle options available to Indian consumers, particularly within the compact SUV segment, aiming for accessible and practical electric motoring.
