Shorter Journeys Ahead
The long-cherished dream of a swift commute from the bustling capital to the serene hills of Dehradun is now a reality, thanks to the recently inaugurated
Delhi-Dehradun Expressway. What was once a journey stretching up to six hours has now been transformed into a mere sprint, with official tests confirming a travel duration of approximately two hours and 55 minutes between Delhi ISBT and Dehradun ISBT. This dramatic reduction in travel time is a testament to the focus on passenger convenience and expedited travel. The primary goal behind this infrastructure development is to provide commuters with a significantly faster and more efficient way to reach their destination, effectively turning a lengthy drive into a short, manageable trip.
Fare Reductions Unveiled
Beyond the time-saving benefits, the Delhi-Dehradun Expressway also brings welcome news for the pockets of travelers. With the shorter distance and reduced fuel consumption inherent to the new route, the Uttarakhand Transport Corporation (UTC) has implemented substantial fare adjustments across its services. Passengers opting for premium Volvo services will now pay Rs 709, a considerable drop from the previous Rs 945, marking a saving of Rs 236. Similarly, AC class fares have been revised from Rs 704 to Rs 557, offering a saving of Rs 147. Even the ordinary bus services have seen a reduction, with fares now set at Rs 355, down from Rs 420, a saving of Rs 65. These fare cuts make traveling by bus to Dehradun more accessible and economical for everyone.
Engineering Marvel Explained
The Delhi-Dehradun Expressway stands as a remarkable feat of engineering, designed not just for speed but also for safety and integration with the environment. The highway boasts an impressive 6 to 12 lanes, spanning from Akshardham in Delhi through Loni, Baghpat, Baraut, Shamli, and Saharanpur before reaching Dehradun. A key feature is its direct connectivity to Haridwar, with a 50.7 km dedicated stretch enabling a swift journey from Delhi to the holy city in just about 2 hours. Perhaps the most groundbreaking aspect is the inclusion of a 12 km overhead bridge, recognized as the longest wildlife corridor in Asia. This vital structure traverses through the Rajaji National Park, ensuring the safe passage of wildlife and minimizing human-wildlife conflict, showcasing a commitment to ecological preservation alongside infrastructural advancement.
