Chennai-Thiruvananthapuram Boost
To facilitate a more pleasant journey for travelers between Chennai Central and Thiruvananthapuram during the peak summer months, Southern Railway has
announced the addition of two extra AC three-tier coaches to the AC Superfast Express (train number 22207). This enhancement is scheduled to commence from March 31st and will continue until May 5th. For passengers making the return trip from Thiruvananthapuram to Chennai Central, these additional coaches will be available on train number 22208 from April 1st through May 6th. This measure is designed to alleviate the expected surge in demand and provide a more comfortable, air-conditioned travel experience for those journeying between these two significant South Indian cities during the popular holiday season, aiming to reduce overcrowding and enhance overall passenger satisfaction.
Tirupati Route Capacity
The popular routes connecting to Tirupati are also receiving an upgrade to manage the increased passenger volume. Specifically, the Sapthagiri Express, identified by train numbers 16053 and 16054, will be equipped with an extra chair car (CC) coach. This augmentation is set to be in effect from March 30th until June 2nd. Furthermore, another pair of trains operating on the same route, bearing numbers 16057 and 16058, will also benefit from additional seating capacity throughout this same period. These strategic additions are a direct response to the heightened travel demand anticipated during the summer holidays, aiming to ensure greater ticket availability and a more comfortable seating arrangement for pilgrims and other travelers heading to and from Tirupati.
Yercaud Express Upgrades
Passengers utilizing the Chennai-Erode Yercaud Express are set to benefit from improved capacity. Train number 22649, traveling from Chennai to Erode, will feature one additional sleeper coach. This increased provision for overnight travel will be available from April 1st up to June 4th. On the return leg, train number 22650, operating from Erode back to Chennai, will also offer this enhanced facility. The additional sleeper coach will be attached from March 29th through June 1st. These adjustments are intended to cater to the substantial number of passengers who rely on this route for intercity travel during the summer vacation period, making journeys more accommodating and addressing potential overcrowding on this important service.
Further Route Additions
Beyond the specific train numbers mentioned, Southern Railway is extending its capacity enhancement initiative to other crucial corridors. Additional coaches are being strategically introduced on services connecting Chennai to Charlapalli, as well as on the Rameswaram to Mangalore Central route. Railway officials have emphasized that these comprehensive additions are a proactive measure to tackle anticipated ticket shortages during the peak summer rush. The primary objective is to ensure a smoother, more convenient, and less stressful travel experience for a wider range of passengers across these important railway lines, reinforcing the commitment to passenger comfort and efficient service delivery during the busy travel season.
