Morning Traffic Adjustments
On May 1st, the heart of central Mumbai will experience significant traffic alterations between 6 AM and 12 PM due to the annual Maharashtra Day Parade
taking place at Shivaji Park. The Mumbai Traffic Police have put in place a comprehensive advisory to manage the flow of vehicles and pedestrians. This includes a series of road closures, designated one-way routes, and strictly enforced no-parking zones across several key areas. Motorists are strongly advised to consult this information and plan their journeys accordingly to circumvent any inconvenience. Expect traffic personnel to be stationed at crucial intersections to assist and direct traffic, ensuring public safety and order during the event.
Key Road Closures
Several roads will be entirely inaccessible to general vehicular traffic during the parade timings. Specifically, both Keluskar Road South and Keluskar Road North will be closed to all vehicles, with exceptions only for authorized personnel. Furthermore, Swatantraveer Savarkar Road will have restricted vehicular entry between Siddhivinayak Junction and Yes Bank Junction. These closures are crucial for maintaining the integrity of the parade route and ensuring the safety of participants. Commuters intending to travel through these affected arteries should seek alternative paths well in advance. The authorities have made these decisions to facilitate the smooth conduct of the official celebrations and minimize disruption to the public.
Route Diversions Explained
For those needing to navigate through central Mumbai on May 1st, understanding the traffic diversions is paramount. Vehicles approaching from Siddhivinayak Junction and intending to use Veer Savarkar Road will be rerouted. They must take a right turn at the junction, proceed along SK Bole Road, then make a left turn at Portuguese Church. From there, the route continues via Gokhale Road, Gadkari Junction, and LJ Road, eventually reaching Raja Bade Chowk, which leads towards the western suburbs. Conversely, traffic originating from Yes Bank Junction heading towards Siddhivinayak Junction will not be permitted. These vehicles should instead turn left at Yes Bank Junction, travel along Pandurang Naik Road, take a right at Raja Bade Chowk, and then follow LJ Road, Gadkari Junction, and Gokhale Road to reach South Mumbai. SK Bole Road itself will operate as a one-way street exclusively from Siddhivinayak Junction to Portuguese Church Junction during this period.
Parking Restrictions and Options
To facilitate the parade and maintain clear thoroughfares, parking will be strictly prohibited in several areas. These no-parking zones include the entirety of Keluskar Road South and North, Pandurang Naik Road, and NC Kelkar Road from Gadkari Chowk to Kotwal Garden. For official vehicles belonging to police, BMC, and PWD, designated parking areas have been set up at Veer Savarkar Smarak Hall, Vanita Samaj Hall, Mahatma Gandhi Swimming Pool, and Kohinoor PPL in Dadar. Visitors attending the event without an authorized car pass are advised to utilize the BMC-operated Kohinoor Parking Lot in Dadar. Adherence to these parking regulations is essential to avoid penalties and ensure smooth traffic movement.

Understanding this specific path helps in anticipating potential traffic congestion and planning alternative travel routes more effectively.
