Major Road Closures
In anticipation of large gatherings for Dr. Babasaheb Ambedkar's 135th birth anniversary at Chaityabhoomi, Mumbai Traffic Police have implemented comprehensive
traffic restrictions across central Mumbai, particularly in the Dadar area. These measures are in effect from 11 am on Monday until midnight on Tuesday to manage the expected influx of followers. Several vital roadways will either be completely shut down or restricted to one-way traffic to facilitate smooth crowd movement and ensure public safety. Specifically, SK Bole Road will operate as a one-way thoroughfare from the Siddhivinayak Temple Junction towards the Portuguese Church. SVS Road, from Siddhivinayak Temple Junction to Yes Bank Junction, will be entirely inaccessible to all vehicles, though local residents can use Road No. 5. Ranade Road will also face a complete closure for all vehicular movement. Furthermore, Dnyaneshwar Mandir Road will be closed from its intersection with SVS Road all the way to Dadar Chowpatty. These significant closures necessitate careful route planning for all commuters intending to travel through or near these areas.
Heavy Vehicle Diversions
To alleviate congestion and streamline traffic flow around the Chaityabhoomi vicinity, all heavy and goods vehicles, including tempos, will be subject to rerouting. These vehicles, with the sole exception of BEST buses, will be diverted from Mahim Junction and directed to proceed via LJ Road. This strategic diversion is designed to minimize traffic buildup in densely populated areas where a substantial number of pedestrians are anticipated. By directing larger vehicles away from the immediate celebration zones, authorities aim to create a safer and more manageable environment for both attendees and other road users, ensuring that the primary routes remain clearer for essential movement and emergency services.
No-Parking Zones Enforced
Stringent no-parking regulations are being strictly enforced along several key arterial roads to prevent any obstruction to traffic and to ensure that emergency services can access areas if needed. Commuters are warned against parking their vehicles on the following stretches: Veer Savarkar Marg, specifically between Century Junction and Yes Bank Junction; Ranade Road; both South and North Keluskar Road; and Dnyaneshwar Mandir Road. Vehicles found in violation of these no-parking rules will be subject to towing and potential penalties, as per the established traffic regulations. This measure is crucial for maintaining clear passage and enabling swift responses in any unforeseen circumstances, contributing to the overall safety and orderliness during the Ambedkar Jayanti observances.
Designated Parking Spots
To provide convenient options for visitors attending the Ambedkar Jayanti celebrations, the Mumbai Traffic Police have designated specific areas where parking will be permitted. These official parking locations include Senapati Bapat Marg (for vehicles arriving from Mahim and Dadar), India Bulls Finance Center PPL at Elphinstone, Kohinoor Square PPL within the Kohinoor Mill Compound near Shivaji Park, Kamgar Stadium on Senapati Bapat Marg, India Bulls Center PPL at the Jupiter Mill Compound in Elphinstone, and the Five Gardens area. Motorists are strongly encouraged to utilize these identified parking facilities to avoid the inconvenience of towing or fines and to contribute to smoother traffic circulation in and around the celebration venues, ensuring a more organized experience for everyone.
Commuter Guidance
Given the significant scale of the expected gatherings, all commuters traveling through central Mumbai during this period are strongly advised to exercise caution and stay informed about traffic updates. It is highly recommended to allow for extra travel time when planning journeys through affected areas. Authorities urge the public to cooperate fully with the traffic personnel on duty and to strictly adhere to all imposed restrictions. Following these guidelines will contribute to a hassle-free observance of this important occasion, minimizing disruptions and ensuring the safety and convenience of all involved. Staying updated via official channels will be key to navigating the city successfully during these festive times.
