Powertrain and Range Boost
The updated luxury electric sedan now boasts significantly improved powertrain components and battery technology, pushing its efficiency and overall driving
range to new heights. Specifically, the EQS 450+ variant now achieves an impressive WLTP-certified range of up to 926km, a substantial 13% increase over its predecessor, positioning it among the longest-range electric sedans available. Other models also see range enhancements, with the EQS 400 reaching up to 817km and the EQS 500 4MATIC and EQS 580 4MATIC offering up to 876km. The battery options are expanded, with capacities reaching up to 122kWh, and a 112kWh option is available for the EQS 400. Power output across the range now varies from 367hp to 585hp, with all-wheel-drive (4MATIC) capability featured on the EQS 500 and EQS 580 variants. Charging is remarkably swift, supporting DC fast charging up to 350kW, enabling an addition of 320km of range in approximately 10 minutes under WLTP conditions. Furthermore, the vehicle supports bidirectional charging, facilitating vehicle-to-home and vehicle-to-grid functions where available. A newly integrated two-speed transmission on the rear axle optimizes acceleration with a shorter first gear and enhances efficiency at higher speeds with a longer second gear. Regenerative braking capabilities have been significantly boosted to an impressive 385kW, a 33% uplift, allowing for the majority of deceleration in daily driving to be managed through energy recovery. The air suspension system has also been refined, incorporating cloud-based data inputs to proactively adjust damping based on detected road conditions from other vehicles.
Refined Exterior Aesthetics
While maintaining its signature coupe-like silhouette, the latest iteration of this electric luxury sedan presents subtle yet impactful revisions to its exterior design, both at the front and rear. The front fascia now features a redesigned grille housing an illuminated Mercedes-Benz star and a striking backlit star pattern. The advanced "Digital Light" headlamps are now more seamlessly integrated with the light bar and capable of projecting high beams up to 600 meters. Daytime running lights incorporate star-shaped elements, aligning with the contemporary lighting signature seen across newer models like the S-Class, CLA, and GLC EV. The front bumper has also been restyled, incorporating a larger air intake and refined chrome accents. At the rear, the light bar has been updated with new internal detailing, and the bumper design is revised to include more pronounced diffuser elements. Aerodynamic efficiency remains a paramount focus, with the vehicle maintaining an exceptionally low drag coefficient of 0.20, contributing to its extended range and performance.
Interior Innovations and Tech
Inside, the cabin continues to feature the immersive MBUX Hyperscreen, a panoramic display that seamlessly integrates three distinct screens beneath a single sheet of glass. This sophisticated infotainment system now operates on Mercedes’ advanced MB.OS software, which supports over-the-air updates for continuous improvement. A new MBUX Virtual Assistant, powered by artificial intelligence, enhances user interaction, and the navigation system now intelligently considers energy consumption and charging requirements. A notable addition is the availability of an optional yoke-style steering wheel, which will be introduced shortly after the initial launch and is paired with groundbreaking steer-by-wire technology – a first for a German automotive manufacturer in a production vehicle. Driver assistance systems have undergone significant upgrades, including enhanced lane-keeping assist and evasive steering support, leveraging a comprehensive suite of sensors. Parking assistance has also been improved, offering faster operation and the new capability for diagonal parking maneuvers. Rear-seat occupants can enjoy twin 13.1-inch screens for entertainment and control of vehicle functions like climate settings. Additional premium features include a high-efficiency HEPA air filtration system and heated front seatbelts, further elevating the comfort and luxury experience for all occupants.
