have officially confirmed that a sequel to the hit animated fantasy adventure is in development.
The original film blended high-energy K-pop music with supernatural action and quickly emerged as one of Netflix’s biggest global successes. Now, the creative team behind the project is returning to expand the story even further.
KPop Demon Hunters 2 in the works
Directors Maggie Kang and Chris Appelhans will once again lead the sequel. Both filmmakers will write and direct the follow-up film. According to early reports, the movie is currently targeting a 2029 release.
The sequel also marks the beginning of a new multi-year partnership between the directors and Netflix, with the duo expected to develop additional animated projects for the streaming platform.

The original movie followed a fictional K-pop girl group who secretly protect the world from supernatural threats. By day, they live as global music stars. This unusual mix of pop culture, fantasy action and Korean storytelling helped the film stand out in the crowded animation landscape.

The sequel announcement arrives at an exciting moment for the franchise. KPop Demon Hunters is currently nominated at the 98th Academy Awards for Best Animated Feature and Best Original Song for the track Golden.
Since debuting on Netflix through a licensing partnership with Sony Pictures Animation, the film has grown into one of the platform’s most popular releases. Its influence even extended beyond streaming. In late 2025, Netflix organised special theatrical fan screenings featuring a sing-along version of the movie, which attracted enthusiastic audiences.
