Caracas: The Indian Army’s medical contingent deployed to Venezuela under Operation Amistad continues to provide healthcare support to people affected
by the devastating earthquake that struck the South American country last week.
According to the latest update, the team from the 60 Para Field Hospital has treated 815 patients as of July 2. The field hospital is also caring for 20 patients who remain admitted for further treatment and observation.

India sent the medical team as part of its humanitarian assistance and disaster relief mission to support earthquake-hit communities.
Besides emergency trauma care, the Indian medical team has been offering a range of specialised services.
So far, doctors have carried out 233 dental consultations, 1,836 laboratory investigations and 253 X-ray examinations. The team has also performed around 65 surgeries, providing advanced treatment to seriously injured patients.
The contingent is working closely with local authorities to ensure timely medical care reaches those affected by the disaster.
Indian Army medical team treats over 800 earthquake victims in Venezuela
Earlier, Venezuelan authorities praised the Indian medical team’s efforts to assist earthquake victims.
The Indian Embassy in Venezuela said, “Minister of People’s Power for Foreign Minister, Andrea Corao Faria, visited our Field Hospital and appreciated our efforts to help the earthquake victims.”
The embassy also stated that India has intensified its disaster relief efforts “with a healing touch to those affected by the earthquake.”
The Indian Army established its field hospital at the International La Rinconada Racetrack in Caracas soon after arriving in Venezuela.
The powerful 7.2 and 7.5 magnitude earthquakes were among the strongest to hit Venezuela in more than a century. The disaster has claimed more than 1,900 lives, while thousands of people have been injured or remain missing.
As part of Operation Amistad, two Indian Air Force C-17 Globemaster aircraft transported 66 tonnes of humanitarian aid, including the field hospital, more than 35 tonnes of relief supplies, medicines, medical equipment and two BHISHM Cubes.
BHISHM (Bharat Health Initiative for Sahyog Hita & Maitri) Cubes are mobile hospitals designed to provide emergency medical care during disasters.
Indian rescue and medical teams continue to work alongside Venezuelan authorities to provide medical assistance and support ongoing relief operations.
