Oslo: Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Tuesday said that India and the Nordic nations have the same values for the mutual commitments to democracy, the rule
of law and multilateralism. He added that India shared priorities with these countries in technology and sustainability, creating several opportunities for collaboration.
Addressing the joint press meet with leaders after the end of the India-Nordic summit, the Prime Minister said that New Delhi and regional countries have made special progress in ties over the years. Apart from him, those who were also present along with him included Norwegian PM Jonas Gahr Store, Danish PM Mette Frederiksen, Finnish PM Petteri Orpo, Icelandic PM Kristrún Frostadottir, and Swedish PM Ulf Kristersson.
“Our mutual commitment to democracy, the rule of law, and multilateralism makes us natural partners, while our shared priorities in technology and sustainability create abundant opportunities for collaboration. In light of this, we established this format eight years ago to accelerate and strengthen our relations with the Nordic nations,” PM Modi said.
Special progress made in ties: PM Modi
He added, “In the past few years, we have made special progress in our relations. In 10 years, our bilateral trade has increased almost 4-fold. Investment funds from Nordic countries are also becoming key partners in India’s rapid growth. In the last decade, investment from Nordic countries into India has increased by almost 200 percent.”
‘Finalised India-EU trade agreement a few months back’
“Since October 2025, we have implemented the Trade and Economic Partnership Agreement with Norway, Iceland, and other EFTA countries. Just a few months ago, we finalized the India-European Union Free Trade Agreement, with Denmark, Finland, and Sweden as key partners. Through these ambitious trade agreements, we are ushering in a new golden era for relations between India and the Nordic countries,” the PM added while referring to growth in economic ties between India and Nordic countries.
