New Delhi: Sheikh Hasina’s son, Sajeeb Wazed, claimed that the court would convict her mother and probably sentence her to death. As of now, the former
prime minister has been in New Delhi since 2021.
Wazed threatened to block the elections of 2026 with their supporters unless the ban on their party, Awami League, is lifted.
“We know exactly what the verdict is going to be. They’re televising it. They’re going to convict her, and they’ll probably sentence her to death. What can they do to my mother? My mother is safe in India. India is giving her full security.” Sheikh Hasina’s son said.
Bangladesh tightened their security across Dhaka and other areas amid rising tensions ahead of the special tribunal’s verdict against the deposed prime minister, Sheikh Hasina, on November 17.
Hasina disbanded the Awami League and announced a two-day shutdown ahead of the International Crimes Tribunal-Bangladesh (ICT-BD) verdict. In response, the authorities ordered strict military, paramilitary, and police vigilance on Awami’s shutdown.
Hasina urged her party supporters to continue the protest despite the government ban and also wanted her supporters to confront the interim government. She accused Muhammad Yunus, the interim PM, of her removal and oppressed her party workers.
Violence in Dhaka
Dhaka witnessed a violent night as 32 blasts were reported on November 12 alone, along with dozens of buses torched. Several crude bombs also exploded in the capital.
Authorities have taken several measures to tackle the outburst, as they deployed more than 400 border guards, restricted public gatherings, and reinforced checkpoints.
