Dehradun: The weather in Uttarakhand has changed once again, bringing snowfall to the high Himalayan peaks and rain to the lower hilly regions. Since Tuesday
morning, continuous snowfall has been reported in Kedarnath, Gangotri, Nanda Devi, Trishul, and Rajrambha.
In Dehradun, the day started with clear skies and bright sunshine. However, by afternoon, the weather suddenly shifted, and light rain was recorded in several areas. The sudden change has reminded residents of the unpredictable nature of winter in the hills.

Snowfall in border areas
In the border regions of Pithoragarh district, snowfall has been continuing since Tuesday morning. Peaks such as Nanda Devi, Nandakot, Hardewal, Trishul, Panchachuli, and Rajrambha are covered in snow, creating a beautiful but challenging environment. Local residents say that while the snowfall adds to the scenic beauty, it also disrupts daily life and travel.
Orange alert issued
According to the Meteorological Department, a fresh western disturbance has become active over the region. As a result, hailstorms and thunderstorms are expected in Uttarkashi, Chamoli, Pithoragarh, Bageshwar, Rudraprayag, and Almora. An orange alert has been issued, warning residents and travelers to remain cautious.
Schools closed due to weather warning
Due to the weather warning, holidays have been declared in all government, non‑government, private schools, and Anganwadi centers from class 1 to 12 across the district. Authorities have taken this step to ensure the safety of children and staff, as heavy rain and snowfall can make commuting risky.
Impact on daily life
The changing weather has affected normal routines in many districts. Farmers are hopeful that the rain will benefit crops, but hailstorms could cause damage. Tourists visiting the hill stations are enjoying the snowfall, though officials have advised caution while traveling on slippery roads.
The Meteorological Department has urged people to stay updated with forecasts and avoid unnecessary travel in areas under orange alert. With the western disturbance expected to continue, more rain and snow are likely in the coming days.
