3 aircraft withdrawn from service
According to a report in the Hindustan Times, which quoted officials from the Delhi International Airport Limited (DIAL), 3 narrow bodied aircraft had to be withdrawn from service, after they suffered damage to their bodies.
The airport officials confirmed that 3 Air India aircraft were damaged after the ground support equipment hit them. The ground support equipment moved due to sudden strong winds and rains which hit the city on Sunday, they added. The incident happened at 4:40 pm on Sunday.
The accident reportedly happened during a spell of rains and gusty winds which hit the national capital on Sunday. It also disrupted several flight schedules.
According to officials, no weather warning had been issued by the Air Traffic Control (ATC) or any other agency, before the sudden change in weather. So far, Air India has not released any statement regarding the damage to its aircraft.
An airport official however said that all the 3 damaged aircraft have now been grounded for inspection. Two of them are likely to return to service shortly. He also said that some other aircraft from other airlines also suffered damage due to the bad weather.
