New Delhi:Gujarat Titans (GT) defeated Delhi Capitals (DC) by 1 run in the match no.14 of the IPL 2026 at the Arun Jaitley Stadium on Wednesday, April
9. Chasing the massive 211-run target, KL Rahul scored 92 runs off 52 balls, and David Miller took the game to the last over, but left disappointed in the end when GT sealed the last-over thriller to take two points.
Defending 13 runs in the last over, Prasidh Krishna stayed calm despite getting smashed for a boundary and maximum in the first four balls. The South African batter did all the hard work, and it looked like the hosts would secure their third consecutive win, but a brain-fade moment from Miller cost them the match.
DC openers fire, but middle-order collapses
KL Rahul and Pathum Nissanka put DC in control by stitching a 76-run partnership for the opening wicket. Both openers complemented each other well, with Nissanka playing the role of aggressor. Rahul smashed 92 runs off 52 balls, and Nissanka scored 41 off 24 as DC looked on course to chase down the record target.
But Rashid Khan bowled brilliantly and changed the match by removing Nitish Rana, in-form Samveer Rizvi, and Axar Patel in the middle overs to bring GT back into clash, and shift the momentum. The hosts suffered another blow when Tristan Stubbs was run out, leaving DC with 36 needed in the last two.
It looked tough at one point, but Miller came back after getting treatment on his finger in the dressing room. He had earlier retired hurt when the Axar Patel-led side needed 81 runs off 42 balls. He was initially expected to play a second fiddle, with KL Rahul taking on the DC bowlers. But Siraj removed Rahul, leaving the entire responsibility on Miller’s shoulder.
Miller put the pressure back on GT by smashing boundaries against Siraj and Krishna, dragging the home team back into the match. Miller smacked two maximums and a boundary in the 19th over off Siraj.
The brain-fade moment
DC needed 13 runs in the final over, and Vipraj Nigam smashed a boundary over wide mid-off on the first delivery, but Prasidh removed him on the second ball. The hosts needed 8 off 3, and Kuldeep Yadav took a single to give strike back to the set batter Miller. He hit maximum over long-off on the fourth ball, and the equation came down to just 2 off 2.
It was here that the game changed as Miller refused to take a single off the penultimate ball, choosing instead to back himself to finish the match. Prasidh responded brilliantly under pressure and bowled a slower bouncer, and the South African failed to connect it as GT clinched the thriller.
If Miller had taken that single, it would have left just 1 run in the final ball, and if Kuldeep had missed it, then the match could have gone to a Super Over, and DC could have won. But despite all the if’s and but’s, it was indeed a foolish mistake and a massive brain fade.

It’s not often that a game of nearly 420 runs is decided by a moment of poor judgment. Miller taking that single would’ve guaranteed a super-over. Kuldeep is good enough to take a single or hit a four off the last ball too.

Personally, I believe it was right call by David Miller to not take a single off the second last ball. Backing himself to finish the game being in such a touch. Taking it on himself. It’s unfortunate he missed the last delivery.
