New Delhi: Novak Djokovic is all set to feature at the ATP Finals 2025 in Turin, putting an end to all the speculations surrounding his participation in the season-ending
event. The 28-year-old Serbian, who has drastically reduced his schedule this year, has reportedly confirmed his entry according to Italy’s Tennis Federation chief Angelo Binaghi.
Djokovic has barely featured on the ATP Tour since the US Open, choosing to skip several major events as he focuses on preserving himself for the big stages. He hasn’t played since his semifinal exit at the Shanghai Masters, leading to concerns that he might skip Turin too, just as he did last year due to an injury. However, recent developments suggest otherwise.
Binaghi told Italian radio channel Rai Gr Parlamento that the seven-time ATP Finals champion will indeed play in Turin. “We have confirmation that Djokovic will be in Turin,” Binaghi said, adding that he also hoped to see Italy’s Lorenzo Musetti among the top eight players.
Djokovic returns to action in Athens
Before heading to Italy, the Serbian will be playing at the ATP 250 Hellenic Championship in Athens, a tournament that holds personal significance for him. The event marks the return of ATP tennis to Greece after nearly three decades and will be organised by his family. Djokovic faces Chile’s Alejandro Tabilo in the Round of 16 on Tuesday in what will be his first competitive appearance since early October.
Speaking ahead of his Athens campaign, Djokovic expressed his excitement about competing in front of Greek fans. “I hope you’re as excited as I am to see tennis back in Athens after 30 years. It’s an honour to play at the Olympic Sports Center, one of the most iconic basketball venues in the world,” he said.
The move to Greece also aligns with Djokovic’s recent lifestyle shift as he and his family have relocated from Serbia to Greece earlier this year. For the 24-time Grand Slam champion, Athens is now more than just another stop on tour as it’s home turf.
If Djokovic plays at the ATP Finals, then this will mark his 18th appearance at the event as he will equal Roger Federer’s all-time record. He last won the title back in 2023 and will be eyeing an eighth crown, which will set a new benchmark in men’s tennis.
His decision to play in Turin leaves just one qualification spot open. Felix Auger-Aliassime currently holds the final place after his strong run in Paris, but Lorenzo Musetti could overtake him if he wins the ATP 250 in Athens this week.
For now, all signs point towards his presence on the court of Turin, and when he does, the world will once again get to witness a champion chasing history on one of tennis’ biggest stages.
