German carmaker has confirmed that the Tayron R-Line will arrive in India in the first quarter of 2026, taking the role of its new flagship SUV for the market.
The Tayron R-Line sits above familiar names like the Tiguan and aims straight at buyers looking for a full-size seven-seater with a European badge. The company has already started teasing the model, and the timeline is now locked in.

Volkswagen India has officially announced that the Tayron R-Line will be launched in India in Q1 2026. The SUV will be positioned as the brand’s flagship offering and will sit in the premium seven-seater category.
According to the company, the Tayron R-Line will be locally assembled at Volkswagen’s Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar plant. This is a key detail for buyers watching pricing closely, since local assembly usually helps keep costs under control in this segment.
The brand director, Nitin Kohli, said, “As we build a premium portfolio of products, we continue catering to the evolving aspirations of Indian car buyers. The all-new Tayron R-Line is the authentic flag-bearer that will drive this vision for Indian consumers. Ensuring competitiveness, we will be locally assembling this SUV at our plant in Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar.”
Design highlights from the first teaser
The first teaser gives just enough away to start conversations. Up front, the Tayron R-Line gets sharp LED daytime running lights connected by a full-width light bar. There is also an illuminated Volkswagen badge, something we are seeing more often on global VW models.
At the rear, the same theme continues. Connected LED tail lamps and a glowing VW logo mirror the front design. The overall look is clean and modern, and closely matches the international-spec Tayron rather than a heavily modified India-only version.
Volkswagen has not yet confirmed whether India will get the five-seater or seven-seater layout, though all signs point to the three-row version. Interior details are still under wraps, and more teasers are expected closer to launch.
Engine and gearbox details for India
Under the bonnet, the Tayron R-Line is expected to use the familiar 2.0-litre TSI petrol engine seen on the Tiguan R-Line. This four-cylinder motor produces 204 hp and 320 Nm of torque.
Power will be sent through a 7-speed DSG automatic gearbox. Volkswagen may also offer its 4MOTION all-wheel-drive system, which would appeal to enthusiasts who want better traction on highways and rough roads.
For context, this setup is well known for strong mid-range performance and relaxed cruising. It is not built for outright speed, but it suits long-distance family travel very well.
