New Delhi: Union Minister Pralhad Joshi on Thursday accused Congress leader Rahul Gandhi of derailing the Monsoon Session of Parliament through his “irresponsible
behaviour” and “arrogance”.
Joshi alleged that several discussions and productive proceedings could not take place because Gandhi wanted Parliament to function according to his wishes.
‘Highly irresponsible behaviour’
“During the Monsoon Session, due to the highly irresponsible behaviour of Rahul Gandhi, the discussions and productive work that could have taken place, aside from the bills that were eventually passed, did not happen,” Joshi said in Delhi.
He claimed that the entire session was disrupted because of the “ego of one individual”, adding that the Opposition repeatedly changed its demands even after the government agreed to address them.
“They make demands, and when those demands are accepted, they run away,” the Union minister said.
‘Opposition shifted goalposts’
Joshi referred to Parliamentary Affairs Minister Kiren Rijiju’s assurance that Union Home Minister Amit Shah would respond in Parliament. He said the Opposition refused to relent even after Shah spoke on the issue and instead shifted its position by demanding his resignation.
“A week ago, Kiren Rijiju stated in Parliament that the Home Minister would provide a reply. Yet, even after that assurance, they did not accept it. Even when the Home Minister himself spoke yesterday, they shifted the goalposts and demanded his resignation,” Joshi said.
‘Rahul is selective and arrogant’
The Union minister also accused Gandhi of being selective in raising issues, questioning why he was not visiting Jharkhand or warning ministers belonging to parties aligned with the Congress.
“Rahul Gandhi is selective and arrogant; he wants Parliament to run exactly according to his whims, disregarding the constitutional framework of the government,” Joshi alleged.
