New Delhi: Team India all-rounder Deepti Sharma created history during the fifth women’s T20I against Sri Lanka at the Greenfield International Stadium
in Thiruvananthapuram on Tuesday, December 30. She dismissed Nilakshika Silva and became the highest ever wicket-taker in T20I cricket, surpassing Australian Megan Schutt’s tally of 151 with her 152nd scalp. The Women in Blue defeated Sri Lanka by 15 runs in the last match of 2025 to secure a 5-0 clean sweep at home.
Batting first, India scored 175 runs in 20 overs.Harmanpreet Kaur scored 68 runs off 43 balls with the help of nine boundaries and one maximum, while Amanjot Kaur and Arundhati Reddy also made crucial contributions with the bat. Chasing the target, the visitors got off to a poor start as Arundhati removed skipper Chamari Athapaththu for two runs.
Hasini Perera and Imesha Dulhani forged a 79-run partnership for the second wicket to keep Sri Lanka in the game. But, after their dismissal, other batters failed to contribute with the bat as the visitors only managed to score 160 runs in 20 overs.
Pakistan bowler Nida Dar is third in the list with 144 scalps. Deepti is also the first cricketer (male or female) in history to score more than 1000 runs and take 150-plus wickets in the T20I format. She is also the first woman to take 150-plus wickets in both ODIs and T20Is.

Deepti Sharma is also nearing Jhulan Goswami’s record for most wickets in women’s international cricket. Deepti has picked up 334 wickets (20 in Test matches, 162 in ODIs, 152 in T20I games), while Goswami is in the first position on the list with 355 wickets (44 in Test matches, 255 in ODIs, 56 in T20Is). England bowler Katherine Sciver-Brunt is just ahead of Deepti with 335 wickets.
