Chennai: In line with the annual tradition of Tamil Nadu’s political parties marking Christmas, actor-politician Vijay’s Tamilaga Vetri Kazhagam (TVK)
to hold a significant holiday celebration today. The event, themed “Equality Christmas Celebration,” to take place at the ‘Four Points’ Convention Center in Mamallapuram, Chengalpattu district, with party leader Vijay in attendance as the chief speaker.
The celebration, starting at 10:30 AM, was an invitation-only affair with strict access control, permitting entry solely to 1,500 guests possessing QR code passes. This organized approach follows the recent crowd surge incident in Karur, which had prompted the party to scale back its Diwali festivities. Senior TVK functionaries, including new inductees like former minister KA Sengottaiyan, Pussy Anand, Adhav Arjuna, and Arunraj, participated in the event.
Vijay’s Christmas outreach
The Christmas gathering unfolds against a backdrop of heightened political activity for TVK as the state elections draw nearer. Vijay has been actively strengthening his party’s structure, recruiting not only seasoned politicians like Sengottaiyan and CT Nirmal Kumar but also engaging various YouTubers, actors, and grassroots functionaries from other parties.
Significantly, Vijay has yet to announce any formal electoral alliances, fuelling widespread speculation that TVK may contest the upcoming polls independently. His recent political rhetoric has evolved, expanding criticism beyond the ruling DMK—which he has labelled an “evil force”—to also target the BJP, a shift that has drawn retaliatory criticism from both the DMK and the BJP-led central government.
2026 Tamil Nadu assembly election
In a strategic move preceding the celebration, Vijay convened a meeting at his Chennai residence on Friday with top TVK executives, including Sengottaiyan, to discuss forming a coalition negotiation committee. Reports suggest this committee is expected to initiate talks with potential allies, including TTV Dhinakaran’s AMMK and the PMK, indicating a fluid political strategy despite the independent stance.
