Chennai: With voting scheduled to take place tomorrow, April 23, election campaigning concluded this evening. A total of 4,023 candidates are in the fray
across 234 Assembly constituencies. Polling will be held from 7:00 AM to 6:00 PM, and all necessary arrangements for the voting process are currently being finalized.
The Election Commission of India is actively raising awareness regarding the importance of the Voter Information Slip (VIS), which helps voters cast their ballots without confusion, and the procedures for obtaining it.
What is a voter information slip?
The Voter Information Slip is an information slip issued to voters by the Election Commission. It facilitates the easy retrieval of voter details at the polling station. In addition to personal details such as the voter’s name, gender, and Voter ID Card number (EPIC Number), it contains key information including the name, number, and address of the designated polling station, as well as the voter’s serial number within the electoral roll.
By presenting this serial number to polling station officials, they can verify voter details instantly and facilitate entry into the voting booth. For instance, if a polling center comprises multiple rooms, this slip helps voters identify exactly which room they need to enter to cast their vote.
Important: VIS is not a proof of identity
The Voter Information Slip (Booth Slip) does not serve as a proof of identity. Therefore, when heading out to vote, it is mandatory to carry either your Voter ID Card or one of the 12 alternative identity documents approved by the Election Commission, in addition to the information slip.
How to download the voter information slip online
Voters can obtain the slip from political party agents stationed at their respective polling stations. Alternatively, it can be downloaded very easily online:

Alternatively, voters can download their digital booth slip via the mobile app and present it to officials at the polling station. These facilities provided by the Election Commission not only save voters’ time on election day but also facilitate the smooth fulfillment of their democratic duty.
