New Delhi: India’s travel tech platform ixigo has launched a fully AI-native version of its app, introducing a redesigned travel experience powered by
conversational and agentic AI. The new platform will be announced at the company’s ixigo NEXT event and will strive to revolutionise the way people plan their travel, moving away from a search-based booking experience to a natural conversation and personalised recommendations.
The app has been redesigned from scratch, incorporating AI across all its layers. The new platform will emphasise the capabilities of voice, contextual, and text-based AI to help users find destinations, plan trips, and manage them. The app is created to serve as a travel guide that is proactive, rather than reactive, before, during and after travel, according to ixigo.
TARA becomes the core of ixigo’s AI experience

The revamped app features ixigo’s enhanced multimodal AI assistant, TARA, as its main focus. Unlike the traditional travel chatbots, TARA is built into the core of the app, which can be operated by voice, text and tap in English, Hindi and Hinglish.
TARA can deal with the detailed travel requests, like hotels with certain amenities and planning multi-city itineraries, the company said. It also comprehends context cues. For instance, people can request suggestions for getaways in honour of an anniversary without explicitly stating ‘travel’. The assistant uses travel history, booking patterns and user preferences to generate recommendations.
ixigo also said that TARA can keep track of flight schedules, check for refunds, and offer real-time information about the terminals and other travel services, including airport lounges.
Trip Mode brings all travel details into one place
The app also has a new feature known as Trip Mode, which is intended to help users after they’ve made a booking. The feature combines boarding passes, gates, bags and real-time travel alerts into one screen.
Trip Mode also gives contextual help along the way. This involves reminders of when to leave for the airport depending on traffic and suggestions of what to see, eat and enjoy along the way.
ixigo introduces agentic AI travel flows
In the current update, ixigo has introduced agentic travel flows, which allow for several travel-related tasks to be completed automatically by the AI agent.
These AI agents have the capacity to send boarding passes straight to WhatsApp and enable travellers to include these in Apple Wallet, Google Wallet and Digi Yatra. If there are gate and timing changes, the passes are dynamically updated. The company also claimed its AI systems can communicate with hotels before they go to ensure the rooms are ready for the travellers.
ixigo’s AI-powered agents are always on standby, providing users with real-time updates on flight schedules, notifying them of any potential delays and helping them with refunds in case of cancelled flights. Many of these services are permission-based, allowing users to choose how the AI features are used, the company said, emphasising the control afforded to them.
ixigo says AI-native travel will define the future
In his statement about the launch, Rajnish Kumar, Group Co-CEO at ixigo, and Aloke Bajpai, Group CEO, said that ixigo has always aimed to ease travel anxiety and make it convenient for its users.
The executives said the new AI-native app is a significant leap away from simply integrating standalone AI capabilities and is designed to create an environment where AI is in tune with the user’s needs, anticipates their actions and helps them throughout their travel experience. They said that the platform brings together the latest in AI technology and two decades of travel data and insights to help bring the travel experience more into the realm of the smart and personalised.
