New Delhi: India women star batter Smriti Mandhana is on the cusp of breaking Shubman Gill’s record during India’s last T20I match against Sri Lanka women.
India are set to lock horns with Sri Lanka in the fifth and final T20I of the series on Tuesday.
Already having impressed the audiences in what proved to be a remarkable year, the Indian opener is closing in on becoming the highest run-scorer in the calendar year across international cricket. The flamboyant India’s women’s player has scored 1703 runs so far in 2025 and needs just 62 more runs to move past Gill, who leads the men’s chart this year with 1764 runs across Tests, ODIs and T20Is.
Mandhana has piled up these runs across the ODIs and T20Is, the most-ever by a woman in a single year. The batter’s consistency at the top of the order powered India to dominance in the 50-over format after the Women in Green bagged their maiden title at the ODI Women’s World Cup.
India eye series sweep
Meanwhile, India women would be eyeing a series sweep when they take on the island nation in the final game on December 30. India showcased class at its best to seal the series 4-0, not allowing any opportunity to the Sri Lanka women side to retaliate even in a single game.
Meanwhile, Mandhana recently etched her name in the history books by becoming only the second Indian woman and fourth overall to cross 10000 runs in international cricket. The 28-year-old achieved the milestone during the fourth T20I at the Greenfield International Stadium, joining an elite list featuring Mithali Raj, Suzie Bates and Charlotte Edwards.
As far as her records are concerned, Mandhana has scored 5322 runs in 117 matches at an average of 48.38, with 14 centuries and 34 fifties making her the sixth-highest run-scorer in the ODI format. In the T20I record, she has scored 4102 runs from 157 matches, placing her second on the all-time list.
