Anthropic has introduced Claude Duet, a new artificial intelligence agent that can start working even before you ask it to do something. The standalone
application can monitor connected apps, identify pending work, prepare daily briefings and complete tasks in the background. The company is initially offering it through a research preview for select users in the United States.
Imagine opening your phone in the morning and finding a summary of important emails, upcoming meetings and tasks that need immediate attention. Claude Duet aims to handle such activities automatically. Built around Anthropic’s Claude Opus 5.5 model, the agent targets professionals and small business owners who regularly deal with emails, meetings, reports and deadlines.

What is Claude Duet and how is it different?
Traditional Claude conversations generally begin when users open the chatbot and enter a prompt. Claude Duet can take the initiative by checking connected applications every few hours and notifying users about matters requiring attention.
It can prepare documents, spreadsheets, presentations and financial reports. Anthropic says it supports more than 6,000 connectors and plugins, allowing it to work across different services.
The agent operates through its own cloud computer with a browser. This means it can continue an assigned task even after users close their laptops or switch off their phones.

Can Claude Duet take decisions on your behalf?
Claude Duet can draft emails, organise information and prepare work independently. Sensitive actions still require permission.
For example, sending messages, making payments, signing documents and deleting information require user approval.
The company has introduced additional security checks to protect sensitive information. Anthropic acknowledges that the early version may occasionally misunderstand instructions or incorrectly judge which tasks are urgent.
