New Delhi: Mumbai and several other cities in Maharashtra are witnessing heavy rainfall. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has in fact, issued
an alert for intermittent heavy rainfall in Mumbai and surrounding districts, for the next 24 hours.
A report in India.com said that the entire state has been witnessing cloudy skies for the past few days. Moderate rains have been reported from Satara, Pune and Sangli reported from various parts of the state. Heavy rains in Mumbai may spell trouble for commuters. Monday, being the first working day of the week sees heavy traffic across the city and rains could cause major disruptions.
Heavy rains would mean waterlogging in several areas like, Sion, Matunga, King’s Circle, Wadala, Hindmata, Andheri, Kandivali, Juhu, Khar, Saki Naka, Kurla, Vikhroli, and Ghatkopar. There may also be waterlogging on Western Express Highway, Eastern Express Highway, LBS Road, Andheri-Kurla Road, and Gulmohar Road, which could possibly disrupt traffic movement on these busy routes.
The IMD has issued a yellow alert for Mumbai, Ratnagiri and Raigad districts. Heavy rains and thunderstorms are likely to continue for the entire day in these places. Rains have not stopped in Mumbai.
Heavy rains, accompanied by strong winds were witnessed in Navi Mumbai as well, said reports.
Rains in other parts of Maharashtra
Apart from Mumbai, other parts of Maharashtra are also likely to receive heavy rains on Monday. The IMD predicted that Palghar would receive moderate rainfall and thunderstorms are likely here. Meanwhile, a yellow alert is in place for Thane and Sindhudurg districts. Both of these districts can see light to moderate rainfall, accompanied by thunderstorms.
Rainfall is also expected in the Pune, Satara Ghatmatha area and Sangli districts of western Maharashtra. Satara, Pune and Sangli are in fact on yellow alert. Light to moderate rains are likely in Kolhapur, Kolhapur Ghatmatha and Solapur, said the weather department.
Basically monsoon rains are expected to reach and cover most parts of the state on Monday.
