Prime Minister Narendra Modi will inaugurate SEMICON India 2026 in New Delhi on September 17, the day he turns 76. The opening ceremony will begin at around
10 AM at Yashobhoomi, where Modi is scheduled to address industry representatives, investors and policymakers. The three-day semiconductor conference will run until September 19.
According to the Prime Minister’s Office, more than 600 companies will participate in the event, which is expected to attract around 50,000 visitors. Representatives from 52 countries, over 400 executives and more than 150 speakers are expected to attend. The conference will focus on chip manufacturing, electronics, investment and developing skilled workers for India’s semiconductor industry.
What to expect at SEMICON India 2026?
This year’s conference will follow the theme “Silicon to Systems: Building the Ecosystem”.
The focus will extend across the chip manufacturing process, from materials and equipment to chip design, fabrication, packaging and finished electronic products.
A new exhibition called “Sand to Silicon to Systems” will explain how raw materials move through different stages of semiconductor production before becoming part of electronic devices.
The programme includes six international roundtables, discussions on the display industry, a women’s leadership forum and sessions focused on workforce development.
Six countries to showcase semiconductor technologies
The exhibition will feature dedicated country pavilions from Japan, South Korea, Malaysia, the Netherlands, Singapore and Sweden.
Twelve Indian states will have booths at the event. There will be a separate space for startups, an innovation showcase and a student hackathon.
These activities will bring together companies working on different stages of chip production, alongside research institutions and students.
Why does SEMICON India 2026 matter?
Semiconductors are used in smartphones, computers, electric vehicles, industrial equipment and AI systems. Building a domestic chip industry requires factories, equipment suppliers, skilled workers and companies capable of designing chips.
India has been expanding its semiconductor manufacturing plans through the India Semiconductor Mission. The government has approved several projects covering chip fabrication, assembly and testing.
The conference will provide an opportunity for participating companies to discuss partnerships, investment and manufacturing plans. It will bring together businesses involved in chip design, production equipment, packaging and finished electronics.
SEMICON India 2026 is being jointly organised by the India Semiconductor Mission and SEMI, the global semiconductor industry association.
