New Delhi: Iran’s Supreme Leader Mojtaba Khamenei has launched a blistering attack on US President Donald Trump, declaring that his signature on agreements
is “utterly worthless and devoid of credibility” after the collapse of a recent US-Iran memorandum of understanding (MoU) and the resumption of military hostilities.
In a written statement issued on Friday, Khamenei accused Washington of repeatedly violating its commitments, saying the latest developments had once again proven that the United States could not be trusted. He said the collapse of the agreement showed that Trump’s promises carried no value.
“The repeated violations by America have once again shown that the signature of the American president is utterly worthless and devoid of credibility,” Khamenei said. He also warned that the Iranian nation and what he described as the “resistance front” would teach the US “meaningful” or “unforgettable” lessons if attacks continued.
Remarks come as fighting intensifies
Khamenei’s comments came as fighting between the United States and Iran escalated after a ceasefire and the recently signed memorandum of understanding broke down. The US carried out fresh airstrikes following the deaths of two American military personnel in an Iranian attack, while Iran responded with missile and drone strikes targeting US military facilities in the Gulf region.
The exchange marks a dramatic reversal from just a month ago, when Tehran and Washington had announced the signing of the MoU after weeks of negotiations. At the time, Khamenei had claimed that Iran negotiated from a position of strength and argued that it was Trump who had been eager to secure an agreement.
From cautious optimism to open hostility
The latest statement reflects the complete collapse of that brief diplomatic opening that has opened up recently after lengthy attempts at peace from both parties. Khamenei portrayed the US as an unreliable negotiating partner and suggested that Iran’s experience with the agreement had reinforced its long-held distrust of Washington.
His remarks also coincide with renewed US military operations against Iranian targets and growing fears that the conflict could widen further across the Middle East, with both sides exchanging threats alongside ongoing military action.
