New Delhi: Toyota has brought the ninth-generation Hilux to India with prices starting at Rs 31.99 lakh (ex-showroom). The new pickup features a redesigned
exterior and cabin, with additional features and tech, while still riding on the IMV body-on-frame platform and Double Cab body style.
Bookings for the Hilux have opened, and deliveries are set to commence in the second week of August. Hilux has been in the Indian market for 4 years now, launched first in 2022, and it has a reputation for being quite a tough truck.
The Hilux is offered in three trims, with prices ranging from Rs 31.99 lakh to Rs 36.69 lakh (ex-showroom). The pickup truck’s range starts with the GX 4×2 AT at Rs 31.99 lakh, followed by the GX 4×4 AT at Rs 33.69 lakh, while the heavily feature-loaded VX 4×4 AT is priced at Rs 36.69 lakh. The base trim now has a premium of Rs 3.47 lakh, while the top-spec version costs Rs 69,000 more.

Styling has been updated significantly with a tougher, more upright stance. The front end now comes with slimmer LED headlamps with integrated LED daytime running lights, a honeycomb-pattern grille and bold TOYOTA lettering replacing the traditional badge. There’s a redesigned bumper with pronounced creases, large air intakes, LED fog lamps and a silver skid plate to make it look more rugged.
The side profile retains its muscular stance with black wheel-arch cladding, integrated side steps, roll bars and newly designed 17-inch alloy wheels. Other highlights include electrically adjustable and retractable outside rear-view mirrors and a shark-fin antenna.
At the back, Toyota has introduced vertically stacked LED tail-lamps with C-shaped lighting signatures, a tailgate featuring prominent TOYOTA lettering and a redesigned bumper complete with an integrated step for easier access to the cargo bed. Buyers get colour options consisting of Sulphur Metallic, Platinum Pearl White Metallic, Attitude Black, Ash, Emotional Red and Super White.

The cabin has been given a major overhaul. It comes with a redesigned dashboard featuring a 7-inch digital instrument display, a 12.3-inch touchscreen infotainment system and a new three-spoke steering wheel carrying the Toyota wordmark. Feature-wise, there’s wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, a wireless phone charger, connected car technology, cruise control, an eight-speaker audio system, a PM2.5 air filter, rear armrest with cup holders, a 360-degree camera and selectable Eco, Normal and Sport drive modes.
Toyota has retained a mix of soft-touch leatherette surfaces and durable hard plastics, while also giving physical buttons for commonly used functions.
However, compared to the international-spec Hilux, the Indian version misses out on some features including ADAS, ventilated front seats, dual-zone automatic climate control and a larger 12.3-inch digital instrument cluster. It instead comes with manual air conditioning and a smaller instrument display.
Safety features include seven airbags, Vehicle Stability Control (VSC), ABS with Brake Assist, front and rear parking sensors, a tyre pressure monitoring system (TPMS) and ISOFIX child-seat anchorages.

The new Hilux still comes with the 2.8-litre four-cylinder turbo-diesel engine making 204 hp and 500 Nm of torque. It is now mated exclusively with a 6-speed torque-converter automatic transmission, with the manual gearbox discontinued. Toyota has also introduced a new rear-wheel-drive (4×2) trim alongside the existing 4×4 models. Unlike the Fortuner, the Hilux doesn’t get Toyota’s 48V Neo Drive mild-hybrid technology.
The 4×4 trims get a low-range transfer case and electronic differential lock along with multiple terrain modes, downhill assist control, traction control and an auto limited-slip differential for better off-road capability.
