New Delhi: Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman presented a record ninth consecutive budget in Indian history. She highlighted that the Union budget 2026
is the first budget to be presented at the Kartavya Bhavan, and with that, the Finance Minister listed three Kartavyas in the budget.
Sitharaman stated that the government expects the fiscal deficit to be at 4.3 per cent of the GDP in 2026-27, which will be lower than the 4.4 per cent projected for the 2026-27 fiscal year.
The government will lay out Rs 1.4 lakh crore as tax devolution to the states in the 2026-27 year, while the net tax receipts are approximately Rs 28.7 lakh crore.
The size of the Union Budget2026-27 is pegged at a whopping amount of Rs 53.5 lakh crore. In the next fiscal year, the deficit is estimated at 4.3 per cent as the government is moving on the fiscal prudence path of debt consolidation.

The Finance Minister granted Rs 5,000 crore for City Economic Regions (CERs) over the next five years. In the electronics market, manufacturing is to be increased to Rs 40,000 crore in FY 27, Nirmala Sitharaman confirmed.
To support the MSMEs, the government will develop a ‘corporate mitras’ cadre, and Sitharaman also announced a six-month foreign asset disclosure programme for the small taxpayers in the country.
