New Delhi: Iceland Cricket delivered a brutal swipe at Indian head coach Gautam Gambhir following the Men in Blue’s disastrous tour of Belfast. The social
media roasting came fresh off the back of a shocking series conclusion where Ireland scripted history by completing a comprehensive 2-0 T20I whitewash over the reigning world champions.
This marked the first ever victory of Ireland over India, breaking India’s 16 series and nearly three years record. After seizing the moment Iceland Cricket took to X to comment on India’s defeat with a sarcastic post, targeting Gambhir over their performance in the series.

However, India never lost a series since Gambhir took charge in 2024 but the streak ended on Sunday when India was clean sweeped by Ireland. It was Ireland’s first win over the T20I World Champions by 34 runs, which raised questions about the management of team India and marking its first T20I defeat since 2023.
The defeat by Ireland was not only embarrassing because of the scoreline but also because of the performance. The visitors were expected to dominate the series but were outplayed in the opener and then an unsuccessful chase of 155 in the second game.
Indian batting top-order tragedies
The collapse of India’s top order raises questions about Gambhir and the rest of the management of the team. In the second T20I, Jai Moondra dismissed Sanju Samson on his first delivery and trapped him into a golden duck.
Not just that, Moondra got Abhishek Sharma out with a golden duck in the same over with an incredible catch by Michael Hollard. Things got worse when captain Shreyas Iyer handed his wicket to Moondra. However, Tilak Varma tried to control the middle overs, and Harshit Rana helped the visitors drag the score towards the win, but Ireland held their nerves and created history by clinching India 2-0.
Vaibhav Sooryavanshi debut against England
Vaibhav Sooryavanshi, who was expected to make his debut in the India vs Ireland series but could not make it to the playing XI and is now expected to make his T20I debut against England on July 1.
