New Delhi: The Delhi Cabinet has approved EV Policy 2.0, with implementation likely from July 1. Chief Minister Rekha Gupta said the government plans to
invest ₹15,000 crore over four years to expand electric mobility and related infrastructure.
The policy targets a 95 per cent electric share in all new vehicle registrations by 2027. This is a target for new registrations. Existing petrol and diesel vehicles can continue operating under Delhi’s current age, pollution and fitness rules.
Delhi EV Policy: New deadlines for autos and two-wheelers
Only electric autorickshaws will be eligible for new registration in Delhi from January 1, 2027.
From April 1, 2028, only electric scooters and motorcycles will receive new registrations. This could bring a major change for Delhi’s two-wheeler market, where petrol models still dominate sales.
Delhi EV Policy: Subsidies announced
The first year of the policy will offer:
- ₹30,000 subsidy for electric two-wheelers
- ₹50,000 subsidy for electric three-wheelers
- ₹1 lakh scrapping incentive for BS-IV four-wheelers
The detailed notification is expected to explain vehicle price limits, buyer eligibility, application rules and whether benefits will be restricted to a fixed number of applicants.
Delhi EV Policy: Hybrid vehicles miss out
An earlier draft proposed a 50 per cent road tax waiver for hybrid vehicles priced up to ₹30 lakh. The approved policy does not include a subsidy for hybrids, according to an official quoted by PTI.
That leaves strong hybrids outside Delhi’s EV incentive system, even though they use an electric motor to reduce fuel use. Buyers considering a hybrid should calculate its regular road tax and registration costs.
