New Delhi: Amid concerns over H1N1 and influenza,Delhi Health Minister Pankaj Kumar Singh said on Tuesday that the situation was under control in the national
capital. He added that Chief Minister Rekha Gupta chaired an emergency review meeting amid an increase in influenza cases
Among those who attended the meeting, apart from CM Rekha Gupta and Health Minister Pankaj Kumar Singh, included senior officials of the Health Department, MCD, NDMC and Delhi Cantonment Board, news agency PTI said.
‘Delhi reported nearly 3,000 influenza cases this year’
Addressing a press conference, Singh said that Delhi reported nearly 3,000 influenza cases in 2026. This included 2,308 H1N1 infections. He also added that there is no problem with the availability of doctors or medicines.
“There is no problem of doctors, staff or medicines. The chief minister has called an emergency review meeting. I assure you there is no problem, everything is under control,” Singh was quoted as saying by the agency.
There is no need for panic: Delhi Health Minister
The health minister added, “There is no need for panic. Patients are coming, but they are getting treated and then going back. Isolation wards have been created in every hospital. If any patient complains of not being provided a bed, action will be taken against the hospital.”
It may be noted that at 2,308 cases, H1N1 infections in the national capital are the huge majority of influenza cases in Delhi. Commonly known as swine flu, the H1N1 infection usually has fever, cough, sore throat, headache, body aches and fatigue. Those having high fever, breathing difficulty, chest pain, or worsening symptoms are advised to go to doctors for medical attention at the earliest.
Meanwhile, Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR) Director-General Rajiv Bahl has said that the H1N1 strain of Influenza A has emerged as a dominant respiratory pathogen across the country.
