New Delhi: Skoda Auto Volkswagen India has started building the updated Kushaq at its Chakan plant in Pune. The start of production marks the beginning
of Skoda’s next phase in India for 2026. Deliveries of the SUV are set to begin in March.
The Kushaq is an important model for the company. It was the first product developed under the INDIA 2.0 plan and was specially designed for Indian roads and conditions. The SUV has helped the group strengthen its position in the country, thanks to strong localisation and export plans.

The updated Kushaq gets a few new features to make it more appealing in the mid-size SUV segment. One of the key additions is a rear seat massage function, which the company says is a first in the segment. It also gets a panoramic sunroof, which has become a popular feature among buyers.
Another major update is the introduction of an 8-speed torque converter automatic gearbox. This new transmission is expected to improve driving comfort and smoothness, especially in city traffic and on highways.
Safety remains unchanged
On the safety front, the Kushaq continues with up to 40 active and passive safety features. It keeps its 5-star safety rating for both adult and child occupants. However, the company has not introduced ADAS features in this update.
Built in India, for India and exports
Skoda says India is playing a bigger role in its global manufacturing plans. The quick start of production after the global debut of the new Kushaq in January 2026 highlights the company’s readiness at its Pune facility.
The Kushaq has been a key contributor to the group’s total sales of 117,000 units in 2025. Along with other locally made models like the Kylaq, Slavia, Taigun and Virtus, it forms an important part of Skoda Auto Volkswagen India’s portfolio.
