Kyiv: In a major boost for Ukraine amid its war with Russia, Ukraine has launched Koral missile launcher for the first time. It was launched during the MSPO
international defense exhibition in Poland.
An image was released by the country’s defence firm Ukroboronprom. In the released image, the missile can be seen launched from a mobile system on a Czechoslovakia-made Tatra truck. Notably, the missile can also be used with launchers used by other missiles like S-300 and Patriot. It can intercept aerial and ballistic targets, KyivPost.com reported.
Missile can be used against radar-visible targets either at sea or on land
It can also be used against radar-visible targets either at sea or on land. It has a weight of 450 kilogramme, which also include 36-kilogramme warhead. The system includes radio-command updates, inertial navigation as well ss an active radar-homing seeker.
With the height of 4.8metres long, the missile has the diametre of 9-12 inches. While its wingspan is 33 inches, the control surfaces have a size of 27 inches. While the development project on Koral began in the year 2016, previous documents suggested that the missile was a surface-to-air missile system and was ship-based. The project became widely known in 2021. The missile was earlier described as modular which can be used as land- and ship-based air defense systems.
Koral missile earlier had limited specifications
The missile earlier had limited specifications. It had a range of over 30 kilometres, an interception altitude of nearly 10 kilometres,dddd a total weight of about 300 kilogrammes. The previous design of the missile was 4.33 metres. It had the diametre of 230-260 millimetres. As per the developers, the missile specifications may change as per the requirements of customers.
