Thiruvananthapuram: Keralam CM VD Satheesan took oath of office along with his council of ministers in Thiruvananthapuram on Monday. Soon after a took several
steps for the welfare of the people of the state.
Among the steps announced by him include free KSRTC bus travel for women, a dedicated department for the elderly, which will take care of their welfare, and a Rs 3,000 increase for ASHA workers. Apart from these, the new cabinet also announced the constitution of the Special Investigation Team (SIT) to investigate alleged attack on Youth Congress leaders at the time of Nava Kerala Yatra in 2023.

The new chief minister also announced a monthly increase of Rs 1,000 each for Anganwadi workers and helpers, apart from pre-primary teachers and school cooking staff. “A society is judged by how it treats its elderly citizens. Keralam should become a model civilised society by ensuring dignified care for senior citizens,” Hindustan Times quoted him as saying.
After the swearing-in, the new cabinet proposed the name of MLA G Sudhakaran. It also urged Governor Rajendra Vishwanath Arlekar to convene the Assembly for the swearing-in of newly elected MLAs and the election of a new Speaker in the Assembly. As per reports, while new MLAs will take oath on May 21, the new Speaker may be elected on May 22.
