Trimurti Films sues Aditya Dhar: Aditya Dhar’s blockbuster Dhurandhar: The Revenge may be dominating the box office, but the spy thriller has now landed
in legal trouble. Production house Trimurti Films has reportedly filed a lawsuit against Dhar’s banner, B62 Studios, alleging that the film used elements of the iconic song Tirchi Topiwale without proper authorisation.
According to Bar and Bench, the dispute centres on the track’s alleged use in the film’s song Rang De Lal. The legal complaint alleges that the new song incorporates parts of Tirchi Topiwale, originally composed by the legendary music duo Kalyanji-Anandji for the 1989 film Tridev.
Why has Trimurti Films filed the lawsuit?
As reported by the legal publication, Trimurti Films has argued that the song was reproduced or recreated in Dhurandhar 2without obtaining the necessary licences or permissions. The production company reportedly claims ownership and control over the rights to the original musical composition as well as the sound recording.
According to the report, Trimurti Films alleges that the use of the song amounts to copyright infringement. The complaint states that the alleged use constitutes “unauthorised reproduction and communication of the work to the public.”
The lawsuit seeks an injunction to prevent any further use of the disputed material. It also demands damages and additional legal remedies.
About the song Tirchi Topiwale
Tirchi Topiwale remains one of the most recognisable tracks from the 1989 action film Tridev. The original version featured music by Kalyanji-Anandji and lyrics by Anand Bakshi, with vocals by Amit Kumar and Sapna Mukherjee. In Dhurandhar 2,the song appears to have inspired the track, Rang De Lal. The updated version includes fresh lyrics and vocals while incorporating elements from the original composition.
The remix was created by composer Shashwat Sachdev and features singers Amit Kumar, Jasmine Sandlas, Afsana Khan and Reble. The lyric video for Rang De Lal, released on YouTube by T-Series, also credits the original composers and lyricist. Music credits for the song list Kalyanji-Anandji alongside Sachdev, while Anand Bakshi is credited with the new lyrics by Jasmine Sandlas and Reble.
