New Delhi: Even though the month of August is coming to an end, there is no let up in the monsoon. The entire country is still in the grip of rains. Be
it the plains or the hill regions of India, rains have wreaked havoc everywhere. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has said that a low pressure area formed over the Bay of Bengal is now moving towards north Odisha and West Bengal. This may lead to rains in several states across India.
No rains in Delhi for the next 2 days: IMD
The IMD said that Delhi will not witness rains for the next 2 days, that means Sunday and Monday. However, cloudy skies are possible in the national capital on Sunday. The maximum temperature is expected to be around 36 degrees Celsius, while the minimum will be around 26 degrees through the day, they added.
Rains are now expected to hit Delhi in September. From September 1 to September 3, the national capital might witness light rains, said the weather department.
Heavy rains possible in UP, Jharkhand
The monsoon is currently active in Uttar Pradesh. A warning for heavy rains and thunderstorms has been issued for Gorakhpur, Prayagraj, Deoria, Basti, Kushinagar, Sonbhadra, Mirzapur, Hamirpur, Jhansi, Lalitpur, Mahoba, Raebareli, Pratapgarh, Banda, Fatehpur, Kanpur, Shamli, Badaun, Etawah, Ghazipur, Mathura, Agra, Ghaziabad, and Meerut.
In Bihar, several districts might witness rains and thunderstorms. In neighbouring Jharkhand too, the weather office has warned for heavy rains and storms.
An alert for heavy rain and thunderstorms is in place for Kapurthala, Bathinda, Faridkot, Ludhiana, Amritsar, Pathankot, Sangrur, Barnala, Gurdaspur, and Hoshiarpur in Punjab. In Haryana there are chances of rains and strong winds.
There is an alert for rains and thunderstorms in several districts of Rajasthan for Sunday. Meanwhile, 13 districts of Madhya Pradesh are expected to get heavy rains.
Northeastern states of country to witness rainfall: IMD
The IMD has further said that West Bengal might witness moderate to heavy rainfall on August 30. In Northeast India too rainfall would intensify, they added. Several parts of Arunachal Pradesh would witness heavy rains starting Sunday, which would continue till at least Tuesday, September 1, said scientists at the weather office.
Widespread rains are predicted for Assam, Meghalaya, Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram and Tripura, between August 30 and September 3, 2026. These states might also witness thunderstorms, said the weather office.
In Arunachal Pradesh, Meghalaya and Assam, heavy rains are possible on Sunday, August 30. For Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram and Tripura, a heavy rain alert is in place for August 31.
Rains to continue in South India
Light to moderate rainfall is likely at several places in Coastal Andhra Pradesh and Yanam, Lakshadweep, North Interior Karnataka, Rayalaseema, South Interior Karnataka, Tamil Nadu, Puducherry, Karaikal, and Telangana from August 30 until September 4.
In Kerala and Mahe, rains are possible from August 30 till September 1. Then the region will witness rainfall once again on September 4, predicted the weather office.
Rains wreak havoc in hill states
Heavy rains along with thunderstorms are predicted in several parts of Uttarakhand on Sunday. The regions likely to see rains are Pithoragadh, Chamoli, Almora, Bageshwar, Nainital, Haridwar, Tihri Garhwal, Rishikesh and Pauri Garwal.
In Himachal Pradesh, Kullu, Kangra, Chamba, Kimmaur, Mandi, Una, Hamirpur, Solan, Lahul-Spiti and Shimla would witness heavy rains and thunderstorms are predicted. Several parts of Jammu and Kashmir are expected to witness rains and thunderstorms.
