New Delhi:Tesla has announced a new scheme to attract more Indian buyers for its Model Y electric SUV, which has not seen the sales the company expected.
The carmaker has launched the “EV Switch & Save Program”, under which customers can get an exchange bonus of INR 300,000 if they trade in any petrol or diesel vehicle and buy the Model Y Rear-Wheel Drive.
This move comes only a few months after Tesla had already reduced the price of the same model by INR 200,000, showing that the company is trying hard to make the car more affordable in India. These repeated offers suggest that Tesla is facing a tough start in the Indian market. Electric cars are still expensive to buy, and public charging stations are limited in many cities.

What the offer includes
Under the new program, buyers will receive an instant bonus of INR 300,000 on the value of their old vehicle when they exchange it for the Model Y Rear-Wheel Drive. The offer is open to any petrol or diesel car, no matter which brand it belongs to. Tesla is also promoting an easy finance option with a down payment of INR 600,000 and monthly instalments starting from INR 49,000. According to the company, owners can save up to INR 20,000 every month on fuel and maintenance compared to a regular car, which could bring the effective monthly cost to about INR 29,000. Buyers will also get a free home wall charger, and Tesla says charging expenses can be around INR 1 per kilometre.

Conditions of the scheme
The exchange bonus is available only on certain variants and colours of the Model Y Rear-Wheel Drive. The offer applies to cars that are ordered and delivered before March 31, 2026. Tesla will check all documents of the vehicle being exchanged and can reject any case if the paperwork is incomplete or doubtful. The company has also made it clear that this scheme cannot be used with any other promotion unless it is officially allowed, and the final decision will remain with Tesla.
