New Delhi: Political rivalries took a backseat on Monday night in Delhi as leaders across party lines came together for a grand wedding reception. The
event at 6 Janpath was held to celebrate the marriage of Nationalist Congress Party MP Supriya Sule’s daughter, Revati Sule, with Nagpur-based industrialist Sarang Lakhani. While the couple had tied the knot in Mumbai back in June, the Delhi function turned out to be a massive political gathering.
Among the prominent attendees was Union Home Minister Amit Shah, who was seen standing quietly with his hands behind his back while waiting for his turn. Standing just a few feet away was Congress leader Rahul Gandhi. It was a noticeable contrast to Parliament, where Rahul Gandhi had been demanding that Amit Shah appear to explain a recent police crackdown on student protesters.
Seeing the Home Minister waiting, Supriya Sule gestured to him and said, “Jaiye aap (Please go),” encouraging him to head towards the stage. Amit Shah walked up with folded hands in a namaste as the newlyweds touched his feet to seek blessings. He handed them a bouquet as photographers captured the moment.
Warm gestures and photo moments
Right after Amit Shah stepped down, Supriya Sule guided Rahul Gandhi, Sonia Gandhi, and Priyanka Gandhi onto the stage. While greeting guests, Sonia Gandhi had walked towards the end of the platform, but Supriya Sule brought her back to stand directly between the couple. She then pulled Rahul Gandhi right next to them, placing Sonia in the centre with Rahul and Priyanka on either side of the couple for the cameras.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi also arrived at the venue, meeting Sharad Pawar and his wife before walking up to the stage to congratulate the couple. Across the hall, leaders from opposing camps were seen having casual interactions. Congress MP Deepender Hooda and External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar were spotted sharing a warm handshake and a smile.
Uniting across party lines
Sonia Gandhi also walked over to the table where Samajwadi Party chief Akhilesh Yadav was seated to exchange pleasantries. Other notable guests in attendance included Union Minister Gajendra Singh Shekhawat, Congress MP Renuka Chowdhury, Delhi Minister Pravesh Verma, Congress MP Amrinder Singh Raja Warring, and Union Minister Ramdas Athawale.

Association President PT Usha, former Union Minister Smriti Irani, and Union Minister Giriraj Singh were also present at the grand gathering, sharing tables and enjoying light-hearted conversations throughout the evening.
