Kolkata: After a massive win in the recent Assembly polls in West Bengal, five BJP ministers took oath on Saturday along with Chief MinisterSuvendu Adhikari.
Among the five ministers who took oath are – Dilip Ghosh, Agnimitra Paul, Ashok Kirtania, Kshudiram Tudu and Nisith Pramanik.
There was light hearted moment when Kirtania covered his face with the oath paper while being sworn in. The small incident added a touch of humour in the ceremony. After taking his oath he also went to meet Prime Minister Narendra Modi, who gave him a warm hug.
Ashok Kirtania wins from Bangaon Uttar
In the recently concluded Assembly polls in the state. He defeated Trinamool Congress (TMC)’s Biswajit Das by a margin of 40,670 in Bangaon Uttar constituency. He increased the poll margin by 30,000 votes this year. In the last Assembly elections in 2021, he defeated TMC’s Shyamal Roy by a margin of 10,488 votes. With a background in business, he won from the seat twice and strengthened the BJP’s position Matua belt close to the Bangladesh border.
Notably, while Adhikari is a Brahmin, Ghosh comes from OBC community, Agnimitra Paul is from Kayastha comminity, Kirtania a Matua face, Tudu represents the tribal belt of Junglemahal. Pramanik is a Rajbanshi leader from north Bengal.
Several BJP, NDA leaders attend swearing-in ceremony
Apart from PM Modi, others who were present in the event included Union Home Minister Amit Shah, senior BJP leaders and chief ministers of NDA-ruled states. Governor RN Ravi administered the oath of office and secrecy to the government amid chants of “Jai Shri Ram”.
A large number of BJP workers, many draped in saffron scarves and carrying flags with lotus symbol, started arriving at the oath menu from early morning. Giant LED screens also played campaign speeches of PM Modi and now Chief Minister Adhikari.
Once considered as an ideological fortress of the Left and later by the TMC, the Brigade Ground turned into a political showpiece for the BJP. The win in the staate has been projected by the BJP as beginning of “Sonar Bangla”. The party won 207 seats out of 294 seats in the State Assembly.
