New Delhi: Sadhguru has called for the creation of a five-nation Himalayan Board involving India, China, Pakistan, Nepal and Bhutan after the deadly flash
floods along the Nepal-Tibet border. Speaking in Kathmandu on Sunday, August 30, he said countries sharing the Himalayan region need closer coordination on disasters and environmental risks.
The spiritual leader made the remarks at an event titled “In Solidarity With Nepal”, his first public appearance since the disaster. He pledged ₹1 crore to Nepal’s Prime Minister Disaster Relief Fund. Thousands remain missing and many are feared dead. The missing include 77 participants of Isha Sacred Walks Kailash Sojourn and three Isha volunteers.
Sadhguru proposes five-nation Himalayan Board
Sadhguru said political borders should not stop countries from jointly addressing threats affecting the mountain range.
“The mountains don’t know your political affiliation. The mountains don’t know what nonsense or language you speak,” he said.
He added, “There must be some congruence of action in what we do because the Himalayas are the most fantastic and majestic feature on the planet. At the same time, they are very fragile.”
Calling for urgent cooperation, he said Nepal should not be expected to deal with a disaster of this scale alone.
“Nobody expected something like this to happen, that three fourths of a glacial ice cube will just fall down four thousand feet down the peak,” Sadhguru said.
Sadhguru speaks on disaster and human suffering
Actor Manisha Koirala, who shared the stage with him, asked what people could learn from such devastation.
Sadhguru replied, “As a human being, we should not wait for disasters to happen.”
He rejected attempts to give the tragedy a divine explanation, saying, “Physical phenomena is physical phenomena ruled by physical laws.”
He also announced that Kala Bhairava Karma would be performed at the Isha Yoga Center in Coimbatore for those who died in the disaster.
