Chennai: The Election Commission has announced that, as of April 20, election monitoring teams have seized items worth a staggering ₹1,212.74 crore across
all Assembly constituencies in Tamil Nadu. Of these seizures, items worth ₹404 crore have been handed over to individuals who produced valid supporting documents.
The total seizures include cash amounting to ₹169.85 crore, liquor valued at ₹2.95 crore, narcotics worth ₹82.73 crore, precious metals (gold and silver) valued at ₹650.87 crore, and other goods and freebies worth ₹306.34 crore.
TN Election: Polling stations and public holiday
For the Tamil Nadu Legislative Assembly General Elections, 75,064 polling stations and 33,211 polling station locations have been established across the state. Additionally, April 23, 2026—the day of polling—has been declared a public holiday.
Voter statistics
The updated voter list, effective as of April 6, 2026, has been prepared and published by the respective Electoral Registration Officers and uploaded to the website of the Chief Electoral Officer of Tamil Nadu. As of April 6, a total of 5,73,43,291 voters are registered. This total comprises 2,80,30,658 male voters, 2,93,04,905 female voters, and 7,728 third-gender voters.
Dry days declaration
Across the entire state of Tamil Nadu, as well as in the border areas of neighbouring states and Union Territories, the period from April 21 to April 23, and the vote-counting day of May 4, have been declared as ‘Dry Days’ on which the sale of liquor is prohibited.
Observers and security deployment
The Election Commission of India has appointed 136 General Observers, 40 Police Observers, and 150 Expenditure Observers for the 234 Assembly constituencies in Tamil Nadu. A total of 83,875 police personnel and 40,427 non-police personnel have been deployed. Furthermore, the Union Ministry of Home Affairs has deployed 300 companies of the Central Armed Police Forces to ensure the conduct of a safe, free, and fair election across all districts of Tamil Nadu.
