New Delhi: Amid escalating tensions in Iran, Indians landed in New Delhi through two commercial flights from Iran. The flights landed in Delhi on Friday
night, January 16. These were not part of the evacuation process, but the Indian government remained prepared for any casualties.
Earlier, several flights from India halted on January 15 due to the closure of the Iranian airspace amid violent protests against the Khamenei regime. However, now that the first two flights have landed in India, it appears that the situation is moving toward normalcy.
Indians showed gratitude towards the government for its support throughout the crisis. The Indian Embassy in Tehran had issued advisories at the time of the protest, advising Indian students, pilgrims, and tourists to assist them in evacuating from Iran.
An Indian national opened up that he had been facing several problems for the last couple of weeks, as he was in Iran for a month.
“When we went outside, protesters would come in front of the car. They would cause a little trouble. There was no internet. Therefore, we couldn’t inform our families, and we were a little worried. We couldn’t even contact the embassy,” he stated.
An MBBS student confirmed that she used to hear about the protest was erupted in Iran but never saw any agitation herself, as the internet was cut down in the state.
“People were worried, but now the scenario in Tehran is now normal. There was fire; the protests were dangerous. However, there were fewer protesters compared to those supporting the regime,” said another national, who appreciated the government for its efforts to bring back the students to India.
Families were waiting outside the arrival gate at the airport. A relative, waiting for his sister-in-law, described the situation as ‘war-like’ because the internet was shut down and there was nothing to contact her relative over the past weeks.
In December, the tensions gripped Iran as protests turned into a fiery battle. Around 3000 people lost their lives over the last two weeks. US President Donald Trump also backed the protesters and threatened Iran.
